I have been trying to remember a place I remember my dad stopped at on a hunting trip when I was about 10 or 11 years old. I ask him a few months back and he could not remember right off where. All we know it was some where between Lake City and Nashville.

Dad like to use allot of the old roads more then the interstate back then.

I ask him about it today and he just remember it was in Monterey TN with out even thinking about it. So I was wondering if anyone knew if it was still there and if they knew the name of it?

I remember it was the first time I saw a full bear and full dear mount.

Are you sure it wasn't Caryonah hunting lodge? Its up around Monterey, and has alot of full body mount deer, bears and such...they also had a room with a large antique gun collection. IIRC.

I am not certain, I will look that city up on the map. Our best guess it was no further then Cookville.

Well I just looked that up. Pretty sure it wasn't a Hunting Lodge. The place we went to was right in a town best I remember. Like we just parked and walked in a shop. I know it was almost 25 years ago. Not sure if the place is still around.

Wilson Taxidermy in Monterey.

Grady Wilson. His brother Allen has Wilderness Hunting Lodge. Been there a dozen times. Used to have the shop in the two story brown brick building in town. He moved later to a studio / museum out of town a bit. He had a life size white wolf and a bear. The museum is full of full body mounts. He used to do all of our work. I have some life size big game he did. He has Wilson's Wildlife Museum in Sevierville too.

Great guy.

That sounds like it. I am going to do my best to stop in there soon, even if I have to make a special trip over.

*******

side note.

Dad and I are going to take trip to west TN deer hunting but probably won't have time for any stopping.

Dad just ask me today if I would be interesting in going to WEST for about 1 or 2 days and of course I say yea.

Probably going to be a drive over, camp/hunt.

There used to be a wildlife museum in Monterey. They shut it down and moved to Crossville. It was open for a few years before it closed too. They may have moved it to Sevierville, not sure.
