Weatherby

I need some help, I have a Weatherby super varmint master in .308 win and I have been trying to find out what rate of twist the barrel has. This is no longer in production and the barrel was manufactured by criterion so I can't go by normal weatherby barrels. So does anyone know the barrel twist or a email address that I can contact weatherby at to get the information?

Thanks for any help.

Get your cleaning rod (hopefully one that has a ball bearing handle like a tipton, dewey, etc) with jag and patch and insert into breach. Push it in until you feel the patch get contact with the rifling. At that point get a piece of tape, electric tape works well, and place the tape near the handle so that it acts like a flag of some sorts (see photo 1) and fasten it so that the flag is at the 12 o'clock position. At this point find a reference point on your action to make a mark onto your cleaning rod. I like to use the ejection port or the rear of the front ring (photo 2). Anywhere will do really. I have used pencil, color pencil, chalk, or whatever to make this mark. Then push your rod into your barrel until the "flag" on the tape makes a complete rotation on your rod. Once it does make another mark at the same very spot that you made the first one. Push out to patch, retract your rod and measure the distance between the two marks.

I hope I was descriptive enough and made this seem simple because it is. You could probably substitute a jag with a brush. Just needs to be something that will grab the rifling and make your rod turn. I use a patch with cleaner on it to get a tight fit to the bore. Don't be surprised if you come up with an odd ball twist rate sometimes. Like 9 3/4 or 9 5/8 for example. Probably just means the marking went wierd or the pressure applied to the rod was too much and it skipped through your bore a bit. Do it a few times and get an average. There are 1/4's & 1/2's out there but thats not the norm.
