Gun Pricing

How does pricing for guns work? Does it vary by manufacturer? Are shown prices a starting point? Should I expect to pay more or less?

For example: I'm looking to purchase a Mossberg 500. The Retail Pricing Guide on the Mossberg webpage puts its MSRP at $420. Should I expect to pay more or less than this in a retail store?

Thanks!

Like everything else, manufacturers set the recommended retail price (MSRP) but it is usually less in a shop. For a Mossy 500, you'll probably pay anywhere between $300-$400 in a shop.

Depends A LOT on if you mean new or used. A new one, msrp is going to be pretty close. A used one...who knows. I gave $200 for my 500, and $275 for my 500 mariner. All depends on new vs used, condition, and who has it.

MSRP tends to run about $100 - $150, depending on the gun, more than what you can expect to pay a dealer/shop. And that's for a new gun, not a used one.

BTW... Bud's Gunshop has a Mossberg 500SP for $315, HERE.

Nick, I'd be happy to go with you to a few local gun shops to price shotguns (Mossbergs, Winchester, Remington, etc). You can expect (as mentioned) to pay less than retail, although it will of course vary by location (shop).

If you'd like, you can go wtih Jon and I one day, and we'll take you around and find you a local shotgun for a good price, that meets your needs (I'm guessing home defense).
