Free membership

Hi guys...I posted this in the Ready Room and no one seems to know anyone that could use it...sooooo....here it goes.

I want to give someone a free 6 month benefactor membership.

Does anyone know someone that needs Benefactor status?

It needs to be someone that REALLY needs or deserves it.

Somone down on their luck, needs to liquidate some guns, a vet that would like to have it, etc.

You guys know what I mean, and I'm sure somone out there knows someone that could use it.

Rules:

Must have been a member for 3 months.

Must have at least 60 posts.

Suggestions for recipient should have a good reason.

Probably would be better to PM me, as to keep this fairly anonymous(if the recipient wants it that way).

IMO the money from a Benefactor membership benefites TGO and thereby everyone as a whole, more than actual membership benefits and individual.

Although we have a Classifieds area it is not the main purpose of the site and those that pay just to post concern me a little.

So IMO it might be better to simply donate the money straight to TGO (everyone) if you can't find any single member that it could help.

No, I just think it might be better if only well known, established members bought/sold in the classifieds....

Although I can agree with you there, I'd still rather see someone follow the rules and pay for a membership, rather than try to do it without.

Besides, some "well known, established members" are pretty damned broke right now, and might not pony up the money until they have a pressing need, ya know?

Oh I agree....but I also don't think I'd want this offer to go to someone just wanting to use the classifieds.

Besides, some "well known, established members" are pretty damned broke right now, and might not pony up the money until they have a pressing need, ya know?

But as I said in a post in the Ready Room (that only Benefactors can see:)) I paid my membership just to help pay for the website, not for any of the benefits that may come with it.

No argument on either count, but people's priorities are different... some come here for one reason and stay for another, etc. And with that in mind, I found the comment that you found people who were following the rules "a little concerning" a bit odd. It also sounds like Titan14 doesn't want to give the membership to anyone who just wants to sell a gun, either, so the point is probably moot anyway.

Again....it's not the "rules" is that David has repeatedly said the classifieds is not the main purpose of the forum....that is is just side benefiet for the members. What I was/am slightly concerned about was somone that only has one post (or very few anyway) and that post is selling a firearm. If that is there only post then more and likely unless they are a friend of a member (if so why haven't they already joined) no on can really know much about that person.

It was my understanding that (orginally at least) the classifieds was so that if you, I, DaveTN, Punisher84, JAB, strickj etc.....wanted to sell/buy something it could be done in a common, easy to find place. Not so just any joe-blow could come by and sell one.

But as you said, the point is really moot on titan14's offer as he has limited it to those with 60 post and registered for 3 months.
