Two arrested after threatening officers | wbir.com

Officers with the Knoxville Fire Department responded to reports of a brush fire on Cherokee Trail Sunday evening.

According to a release, once officers arrived both 26-year-old Brian Kummerer and 40-year-old Helen Jean Kelly approached them and threatened the officers explaining they did not want the fire to be put out.

Officers arrested both on two federal offenses, interfering with a government operation and lying to investigators, as well as arson.

The two are co-workers at a local pharmacy.

Making a federal case out of something like this seems a bit much. There has to be more to the story than meets the eye.

Also, at what point is burning brush arson?

I used to live on Cherokee Trail. A lot of shady people near there that did things that shady people do. We don't know the full story so it's hard to say if the punishment is extreme. Don't mess with firefighters trying to do their job and you won't get arrested.

That house is in one of the curves on the "far" side from UT hospital, not far from Scottish Pike.. It's dilapidated, but an interesting stone structure.

What concerns me is that Knoxville firefighters are arresting people on federal charges. At least according to the blurb of a story we have. Some more details would be nice.

Lying to officers, interfering with officers, and threatening officers is just a big ol' bundle of trouble, no matter where you do it or why.

And I didn't get that it was the firemen who were doing the arresting. ( Usually an LEO or two show up along with the firefighter, as a rule. )
