Pregnant woman attacked by pitbulls speaks

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - 29-year old DeeDee Olizia tries to relax in her hospital bed, after being attacked by two pitbulls. "I'm still in pain, but compared to yesterday I feel a little better."

Dee Dee was going for her usual morning stroll around the block on Moore Street Saturday morning, when she ran into double trouble. "I was walking by myself and I saw two dogs wander down the street. I was afraid, I'm afraid of dogs and I don't like dogs. The way I saw them coming I knew they was going to attack me," DeeDee said.

Moments later both pitbulls lunged at DeeDee who is about 8 months pregnant. "They jumped on me." DeeDee screamed as loud as she could. Neighbors like Kim Kline ran to help, "I got my baseball bat in my car in the back seat and I sprinted on fast as I could for a full block."

By the time Kline and others got there it was too late. "One of her legs had gouges in it. One of the dogs had grabbed a hold of her and was ripping skin off of her and the gouges must have been 3" long and 3" wide," Kline said.

DeeDee laid on the ground. "They asked me if I was ok I told them no and they called the ambulance for me."

DeeDee says she knows who owns the dogs. "They were lying, they said that's not their dog."

Animal control impounded the dogs and left a notice for the owner on a telephone pole. "If they don't claim the dog I hope they put them to sleep."

As DeeDee went through a very traumatizing experience, she was most worried about her little girl to be. "They said the baby's ok," DeeDee said.

Animal Control says the pitbulls have been quarantined. The owner faces a $1,000 fine if he or she comes forward.

They attacked you because you showed fear. Any dog would not just a pit.

That is why alot of people get kilt by pits or any other dogs. If you show fear as with any other animal they will "get you".

Man, I don't particularly trust pitbulls, been around too many bad ones...but these threads are getting kinda redundant. I think I'll make like 5 threads about how burritos are really bad.

I have known a couple pits, not many.

I have known a couple that where nothing but big babies. However, pits have a Rep, in general there is a reason for the stereotype. Sure you can't brand them all, but I will watch out around them., especially if I don't know them.

A few years back, again before I had a gun in my house here in Oak Ridge I drove home and I started to get out of my truck and there where 2 pits in my yard on the block wall above my drive/parking spot. The wall is about 4 feet high. I stayed in my drive, it was getting dusty dark.

They were not just in my hard, they were on the wall, angry barking at me, unprovoked. I had not seen them until they where right there.

I remember this event clear. My wife, opened the front door and started to come out not seeing them. I yelled at her to go back inside and close the door. I called her from my cell, told her what was going on. Next thought was how I was going to get from A to B.

I called Animal control for Anderson Co. I found out Oak Ridge City animal control closed and the county would not come into the City. I told them over the phone if they attacked me I might have to kill them they pretty much told me to protect myself.

I got a better look at them and noticed they belonged to a house a few doors away. I did not know the people that live there, still don't. I called another neighbor and he did. He told me he would call the person that owned them.

The dogs wondered off I grabbed a tire iron as a weapon and found my way to the door. Had they came back, I would have tried to kill them had I needed to. I got a call back from my neighbor a bit later that the dogs had been put up by the other person. Seems they had escaped.

I still do not know that person and last year they built a bigger, better fence. I have not seen them dogs out but I know they still have at least 2. It is the closest neighbor I don't know.

Dogs and religion... both are deadly if not handled properly.

Then again, a lot of things could be added to that list... children, marriage, guns, cars....

Fact is, some people just shouldn't be allowed to manage or control anything on their own.
