I may be moving to Florida and as I have my Tennessee Handgun permit does anyone know if I would have to take the Florida test to be able to carry? I know they honor the TN permit I mean if I live full time in FL.

I have heard of some states recognizing an existing permit from a reciprocity state as a valid proof for obtaining a resident permit in that state when the person moves. Not sure if FL would do that for a TN permit holder. Best bet, unless someone here has been through this exact scenario, would be to contact the FL Dept of Safety and ask them. I doubt they have something that specific on their website.

I looked at the website and couldn't find anything but thanks for the replies.

Most likely they will make you go through all the classes/fingerprinting/background checks again. I'm facing the same thing with New Mexico right now. :usa:

Go back to the site and look for contact info, and ask them. Best bet is to get it from the State, anyway. Good luck with Florida. Enjoy.

If I remember right ( I moved from Fl. to Tn. last Jan and have had my Fl. since 1986 ) but I think its the same as Tn. , after establishing residents , you have 90 days to apply.

Form/Publication Request 790 - Division of Licensing, FDACS

You will NOT have to take a class with your Tn HCP and Fl is a non OC state.

TN is 6 months residency before you must get TN HCP to continue to carry.

This is not deadline to apply, but deadline to have HCP in hand.
