I can't do StarBURNT's coffee much, it takes too much cream and sugar to make it palatable. I like dark roasted stuff, but there's a difference between dark and left in the roaster too long.

Ugly Mug is good stuff, but it's a local brand so I can't find it everywhere.

The one thing that starts my day off completely wrong is when I get to work and I get something that's gotta go out like, yesterday, before I've made a 20oz. cup of the office gruel. I'm pretty heinous until I get all geezed up on caffeine, lol.

StarBURNT's! That's funny....because it is true. The last two times I've had it, two different locations, it tasted burnt. One was here in Memphis, one was in Texarkana, TX.

My theory: I figure they buy everyone else's leftover seconds, also-rans and "irregulars" at rock-bottom prices, roast them again, then sell it for $5 a cup. When you overroast you can get consistent(bad) flavor so it always tastes(awful) the same.

Stuff I'e picked up over the years:

1. never EVER buy pre-flavored beans. they are generally the lowest quality beans with flavorings added. Buy your preferred roast and a bottle of flavoring syrup, usually in the same spot as coffee in teh store anyway.

2. if you buy a cheaper brand of coffee, especially a darker roast bean, and it tastes funky at first, try sorting the next pot o' beans before you grind them. Those lighter-colored beans are called "quakers" and are immature and bitter. pour your beans, pick the lighter ones out, then grind them.

For those in Nashville, there's a great new coffee shop at Trousdale and Backman in Crieve Hall called Roast. It's owned and run by a husband and wife who have a passion for good coffee. They do all their own roasting onsite, and are super nice. I've got a definite soft spot for the small business guy who thinks they can do it better than the big guys and decide to make a run at it.

I'll drink Starbucks, but usually regret it. I don't know what they put in their coffee, but whatever it is, it goes through my colon like a freight train.

Charbucks is awful awful coffee. Overroasted to the point it's almost undrinkable.

They do maintain and clean their coffee machines well though, so at least it's not so bitter as to be undrinkable.

The key to making any roast palatable is having your coffee maker spotlessly clean. Otherwise the tannins build up and ruin even the best roast.

As for best roast in the world... Kona is good, but Jamaican Blue Mountain (on a beach in Jamaica) is far superior to my taste buds.

I guess I am most like J. here in that it is not good for ones health or well being to even say something nice to me until I have had my cig and coffee.:death:

I like all the Darker roasts but after having had the afore mentioned Army field coffee any thing will work. I drink it black or with cream or sugar or both dependent on mood.

My grinder bit the dust a few months ago and I have been too lazy to make a special trip to replace it and never remember when I am out, there is truly no telling when I will get another one.

These days it is Max. House Dark....it aint great but it works. I also REALLY like the Chicory flavor which the wife says tastes like dirt.....I agree and I love it.:)

The wife did not even drink the stuff when we met and now it is such a big deal to her and her preference for the lighter weaker types that we have two coffee pots on each morning. During the winter I will sometimes drink the stuff all day right up until bedtime.

And those of you who are getting any coffee at 8AM in the afternoon:p, that is only because you are not around me, 8AM is time for the second if not third pot.

For those of you who get your first cup of the day AT work, I have no idea how you accomplish such a task, I can barley get out of bed to go get a cup. I think one of man's greatest inventions is the programmable coffee maker. The first ever was called a GE Brew-Starter, it wasnt cheap and I wasnt rich but I sure had one.

I have not been able to drink sodas for a long time they tend to hurt my gut, it is coffee or Iced tea for me and I do occasionally like a good Hot cup of tea.

From time to time I will get a craving and get some of the Orange Mountain Dew (if I can find it) or grab some Coke and drink that part of the day instead of tea, it dont happen often but when it does I do enjoy the intense sugar and syrup buzz it brings.:D

It's pretty well known that people should never, ever mess with me before my first cup. It's essential for both my happiness and their continued respiratory cycle.

If by "mess with me" you mean "Don't even let me know you exist. Leave me to believe I'm the only person on this entire planet, until I've had at least ONE cup of coffee", I agree totally.

You were doing soo well, right up until you got to that whole "chickory" thing... That stuff is just plain nasty. :death:

I've actually tried to kick coffee a few times in my life ... but the headaches and overall system sluggishness have kicked me instead.

So it's still 2-3 cups of whatever. Mandatory. First thing. Currently, Luzianne.

First cup is a cheater, while still brewing, mostly like espresso.

To HALFPINT....you'll need to have a "stash" of your personal PRIMO coffee...the military grade stuff will dull the tastebuds with continued use....but can keep you on alert for days if not weeks

Coffee makes me :) and that makes me sleepy....so I don't drink it too often.

When I do drink it, it's usually a mocha frou frou vanilla white chocolate whipped thingy of some sorts.

It's ok though. You can call me what you wish. You can even punch my man card if you like. I have enough mojo left so it doesn't affect my manliness any.

9am make me :poop: Seriously, everyday.

I remember waking up in the am, coffee, cig, :poop:. In that order. No smoke anymore so 9am will do.

Some of us measure our coffee intake in number of POTS per day, not cups! :) Fresh ground when I can, and even went so far as a Keurig at work so that it can be imbibed within 4 minutes of hitting the button. Now if I could only rig up an IV drip on one of those rolling stands like at hospitals, I could just "push" it all day long!:poop:

Am I the only one here who doesn't like coffee?

I don't think so

I can't get past the stench of it to even want to try tasting the stuff.

They tried to make me the official coffee maker at work a couple of years ago as I arrived before anyone else.

They only made that request one time, I was relieved of the duty after one pot. LOL

Nothing like a post dooky endorphin release!

Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks. Wish they'd run these all the time.

In the words of the immortal Lewis Grizzard, "Brother, I don't believe I'd have told that!"

Just kidding. Enjoy whatever the heck you want. Shoot, if they added a pecan pie latte to their seasonal mix, I might even be tempted to partake.

That is a good drink. I'll only drink it when I'm working and it's free (there's no way I'm paying 4 or 5 bucks for a drink), but it is good.

Can't begin to express my hatred for Starbucks. I do love Kona. A friend from Hawaii brought me some years ago.

I used to be like most here and couldn't function without coffee and a smoke after I woke up but after developing ulcers a few years back it screwed my stomach up so now I need about an hour, glass of water, and my stomach meds before I can even think about coffee or a smoke.

I should quit both because they are horrible for my stomach, but ya know how it is lol

I would make some for the night guard shift while we were in Iraq. No one but me would drink it if they knew I had made it. Apparently I liked it strong.
