I wish I could have found it, I'm sure he didn't live through that. He was at least a 6 pointer, that's what I could see when he was flipping end over end in the ditch but somehow he had the adrenilin to run off in the woods. He jumped in the highway about 10 feet in front of me, I was going 55 and didn't have time to even touch the brakes. Lucky for me insurance is covering in under comprehensive with only a $100 deductable.

Glad you are ok,

Now for the Jokes.

There are easier ways to get bucks.

At least it didn't go though the windshield.

That Nissan seems to have more metal in the front end then I would have imaged.

I cringe with how many I encounter on the dark windy roads in Hernando, MS. We made two towers to get them the traditional way. The ONLY way I want deer this season and any other after this one.

Well the top of the radiator(plastic) broke so I had to have it towed but I would have thought it would have done more damage. It was a good size buck and a pretty hard thump at 55 mph. This time of the year is when most deer/car encounters happen. I'm 48, been driving since 16 and have had State Farm since 16 and this is the very first claim I've had. I dropped collision a while back but kept comprehensive and they treated the accident like a no fault which it was, I've missed/avoided a lot of animal collisions in my time but he jumped from behind trees and brush. I guess it was just my turn to hit a deer.

Do you guys think those bumper-mounted deer whistles are bunk?

I worked two deer vs car collisions last winter alone where the vehicles had those whistle things on 'em. I've started calling them "on-car deer calls".

I chased one a few weeks back about 50 yards down a one lane gravel road on the north side of the off road park in Hot Springs AR.

Glad the damage isn't worse, hate that you hit one, hate that you didn't get it!

I've never heard of those but a freaked out/scared wild animal just runs sometimes and not always away from you. Those things may make a deer run right into you.

The shop is charging State Farm $2100. They also have to replace the A/C condensor and radiator. Although it didn't puncture the radiator it bent it and the mounting brackets and cracked open the plastic top. I wish I could have found the deer, at least I would have had a little meat for my troubles and in Tennessee it's perfectly legal. I did have a White Bluff LEO report the accident and give me a complaint number for the insurance company.

Funny, I was ready to show him my DL and permit but he never asked for them or my proof of insurance or registration.

I'm not sure if they work but I put them on backwards and the deer followed me home.

Got my truck back yesterday, had it repaired at King Automotive in Ashland City. They did a great job and fairly quick too.
