My new to me HOG/DEER CANNON

I traded around for this behemoth of a cannon. I've always loved Lever Action guns and have several 30-30's, 44mag, 444 Marlin, .308 Winchester mod 88, and now this .450 Marlin

The barrel has been shortened to 16.25 inches with the factory ports being cut off. It has a set of XS sights on it as well as a SVL Recoil pad to hopefully take a little kick out of it. I'm thinking I may put a scout scope on it eventually but for now just let well enough be.

Does any have one of these? What can I expect? I hope to shoot it by the weekend and see what she does. I think it will make an excellent hog gun and I will, more than likely, take it deer hunting too.

Nice! I'll take mine in 45/70 Govt. as soon as I decide to buy one. It's on my list right after a good shotgun.

Someone relieved me of my Marlin .444 several years ago, missin it after seein this post. Did a fine job on a bear for me once and took a bunch of deer with it. Lever guns are special in the woods. GREAT addition, thanks for sharing.

I've got one. It is a bona-fide reloaders cartridge. You will get OK performance from factory ammo, but the variety offered by handloading is what makes that gun special. People also forget how accurate these guns are. Many will put a pound of lead in a golf ball at 150 yards

You can load 300 grain plinkers with 2400 and send them along at 1400fps. Hits as hard as a 20 ga slug and is very accurate.

You can load it up with a 405grain plug ahead of some RL-7 for 1900fps that would go though a grizzly...end to end.

and a bunch of loads inbetween.

If you spend a lot of time with it you will find that in this area a 350jhp at around 1700fps will do everything you need done....with gusto.
