The Gun Buster signs have both "guns and knifes" at the entrance.

I would think that means no knives as well then.

Although mainly dealing with handguns and HCP holders, 39-17-1359 seems to allow a property owner to ban all "weapons" not just handguns. One reason the new law says the circle and slash symbol with the "item" that is to be prohibited.

I've been through a metal detector at a federal place with a key chain knife and nothing was said.

If you want good pepper spray, look at Fox Labs 5.3. It is hot stuff and will work decently when going to places you can't carry a gun legally.

I thought pepper spray was still considered a weapon. You can't carry it on a plane or into a courtroom.

It is and it isn't. I work in a Memphis hospital system and we don't ban spray. Just knives and guns.

There are lots of things you can't carry on a plane that aren't "weapons". As far as courtrooms, there is nothing in 39-17-1306 about chemical spray, of course that doesn't stop a judge from prohibiting if he wants. Not really sure chemical spray is mentioned anywhere in the TCA at all actually.

Just restating, but dont want people to forget.

All VA property, (hospitals, clinics, unshared parking lots) are FEDERAL property. TCA does NOT apply. Look to federal law only.

Dont have any idea what federal law thinks about pepper spray. Call the VA hospital security if you want to be sure.

"(2) The term "dangerous weapon" means a weapon, device, instrument, material, or substance, animate or inanimate, that is used for, or is readily capable of, causing death or serious bodily injury, except that such term does not include a pocket knife with a blade of less than 2 1/2 inches in length."

VA property is Federal so Federal law applies...no weapons.

This irks me. I work for Dept. of the Army so I can't carry at work. No one says squat about knives though.

Yeah, the penalty in US Code is same for a >2.5" knife as a handgun.

VERY NICE Daniel, I have been looking at those for a while. I took the advice of the first response but one of the other guys walked in with his knife clipped on his pocket and said the security was descent and just told him cant do and just take back to car. Since the beginning of this month I started night classes and now I will be working here for a month or 2 and man I feel naked but am real grateful to have the work.
