Your Main EDC Firearm -- Range Time?

Wow that's a lot of ammo. Hope you reload. Where do you shoot?

When I was shooting regularly, I shot more than that. This past year with ammo prices going up and my change in work shedule, I shoot a couple of thousand rounds a month on average, but I don't get to shoot every week. I also haven't competed in but a few matches this year. Before this year, I shot a match of some kind at least twice a week in addition to practice time.

back to the OP: My EDC is a Sig P229 in .40 (most of the time) or Sig P226 in 9mm. Right now, I'm shooting a few times a month, but not every week. My plans are, by the end of the year or the first of the new year, to be back actively shooting matches, but unfortunately, for the time being, I won't be able to make as many matches as I used to due to my work schedule.

I do reload and I shoot at home.

Depending on my attire:

Either a PF9 (inside coat or a Sig P238 in pocket holster)

Go to the range usually every week or two usually fifty rounds each thru all my guns.

NEVER have repaired magazines.

( My reloads ) Nosler 185 grain JHP 4.3 Clays

All at 25 yards or 25 Meters Indoors

Past few weeks my Les Baer Premier ll 1.5 Inch upgrade

I carry a Dan wesson RZ-45 Heritage and shoot it a few times a month only at 25 yards

I try to fire at least 3 times a week with at least 25 rounds each time. I did this more often when I first started carrying what I carry now to get used to the pistol. On top of this I generally practice drawing and firing at least 15 minutes almost every day.

I also pull the trigger on our main self defense rifle as often, if not more often, than I do my carry pistol.

The only reason I am able to shoot this often is that I have a 50 yard range at home. To shoot I walk out of my house and onto our covered porch. I have target stands but as of late they have gone to hell so they need to be updated but I am still able to get some proctice in.

You won't find a lot of LEA that will provide that much practice ammo or allow you that degree of access to the range. Not all LES even have there own range, they use someone else's range.

He'll, I spend less in a month on shooting than my buddies do playing golf.

Most leos shoot only when required. If the brass says 50 rounds once a quarter, then that's what they do.

Most LEO's don't shoot anymore than they have to. For some reason people think LEO and .mil are good resources for advice and are expert shots. A very small percentage of them actually are. Most just shoot the minimum for qualification and go on.

I agree with Mike. One of the best shots I know is a LEO, but he isn't good BECAUSE he is a LEO. On the other hand, when I was shooting in college (bullseye) the worst people on our range were the campus cops. I've got plenty of stories about those guys!
