What's the difference in the Glock Generations?

I'm getting ready to get a carry pistol and have really been looking into the Glock line...Heard some great things about them, seem to be very reliable, and a good carry gun...The thing I'm wondering is what is the differences in all the generations and is like a gen 2 better than a gen 3 or is it just personal preference? I believe right now the Gen. 4 is out correct?

Thanks for the help guys!

This is pretty informative.

As far as the differences, most of it comes down to preference. I carry a Glock 19 3rd gen and love it. Some guys hate the finger grooves that were added after the 2nd gen but they don't bother me.

The gen 4's are very appealing to me because the grip is slightly smaller and the mag release seems to be an improvement. But so far gen 4's have not proved to be as reliable as previous generations.

I think you would be happy with any generation you choose.

i have a gen 3 g19 and g26 the difference in the generations is mostly changes in the frames like the gen one and two dont have finger grooves the gen 3 has an accessory rail and finger grooves the gen 4 has a rougher texture and finger grooves plus rail etc... the gen 4 has the most changes made with the addition of adjustable backstraps and a different coating on the slide and barrel i hear good and bad but have no experience with the gen 4

i have put close to 3000 rounds combined through both of my glocks my 19 stove piped on me twice which could have been my fault they are prone to do that if you limp wrist them my 26 hasnt had one failure and ive been using the cheapest federal champion ammo from walmart in both guns since the two failures in my 19 i have put about 500 rounds through it with no problems the 26 is more fun to shoot just because it recoils a little more and has more muzzle flash but i love my 19 and carry it all the time

the 26 carries a lot easier then my 19 does and is very light in comparison when fully loaded its not small enough to pocket carry but it doesnt print in apendix or behind the hip IWB holsters it is just as accurate as the 19 is

there are hundreds of video reviews of glocks on youtube good and bad and a lot of good info to be found on google do some research and go to a range that rents them and try out a few different guns from different manufactures before you decide

im not going to get into the first gen, its before my time and frankly dont know too much about it. the main diff between 2nd and 3rd iis that 3rd gen has finger grooves on the grips, the thumb indent, rail, and later 3rd gen has round indicator. the fourth gen main diff is the new recoil srping system that reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise

supposedly....some say yes, most say no.

My brain isn't good enough to tell the nuances except what I see, in Glocks. I have

and carry a G30 w/rail(gen 3?) and had an older G30. Couldn't tell any difference.

Kept the newer one because of the rail I never use and sold the older one.

My G21 is a good shooter, along with my very old G17. I just bought a G19 gen 3

and haven't shot it, yet, but I expect it to be a weaker version of the G30 due to

caliber, but it's roughly the same size as the G30.

Try as many as you can before buying and pick one that you can handle well. They

all shoot well, but the gen 3 seem to have what folks want in a Glock.
