And if I put a sign up in front of my house, it'd probably read:

"Trespassers will be violated.

Survivors will be shot, and violated again."

( I have 7 large dogs that don't like strangers. They're in charge of the violating, I handle the shooting. )

DO: Post for trespass - as per state requirements. 3M film the windows and re-enforce doors, make sure that you can still get out due to fire when re-enforcing the doors and windows. For around $9 a piece there are alarms that can be placed on doors and windows that sound a loud alarm.

Talk to neighbors, figure out which ones are good and which are zeros... Offer your aid in making sure their things do not walk away, see if they will do the same for you.

I assume the police are not available or of value in the situation? If they are available, ask for more patrols, as it may help.

Hiding the drugs are a good idea. Hide things of value, and have something there to be a decoy for the thief to grab... such as the sugar pill idea.

DO NOT: leave firearms where they can be easily found and taken. A safe, even the expensive ones, can be compromised quicker than you think. So placement and installation of the safe can be as important as the safe bought. However, a safe is too expensive for now...

See if you can target practice on the property. Advise your neighbors you will shoot to kill anyone who breaks in (see if that ends the break ins...)

The police/emergency services fight over who will respond to emergency calls in her area. The road she lives on seperates 2 counties. One side is 1 county and the other side is a different county.

She has an LCD tv I gave her that is worth a few hundred bucks and it was never taken. All it seems the thieves are intrested in is her meds. I guess resale value of the meds is worth more than the other stuff in her place.

Her property backs up to nothing but trees and hills. There isn't any real danger of doing target pratice and hitting anything of value or putting someone life in danger behind her property. Her parents live down the road and have a larger piece of hilly property that we can shoot on and have done so in the past.

My hesitancy with the sign would be that - should she have to shoot someone - it might be used to show that she was 'just waiting' for the chance to shoot/kill someone and that she had every intent of shooting them until they were dead, even if the first shot stopped them. Probably a stretch but just might lend creedence to an argument of cool, calculating premeditation rather than acting out of fear of death or serious injury. Besides, if the folks who are breaking in haven't been afraid to do so, before, why would a little sign make them afraid to keep doing so?

Unfortunately most everyone knows she has meds. Its a case of the typical small area, where everyone wants to know your business and already knows without you knowing. Someone probably said something to the wrong person. Which puts her and the kids in a bad spot to be in.

People actually can keep things secret... provided they don't get all gabby when they shouldn't.

I live in a small town... have for many years. I know how to keep my business just that. And it's by not telling anyone else about it.

I see what your saying, but I can't help what she says and where she says it. If she happened to say something to her mom and then her mom decided to tell the whole ridge. There's not alot that can be done.

Except get off the ridge. Yeah, I know, not possible.

However, what you're proposing can end up being a whole lot more trouble, in the end.

The point I'm trying to make here is that you need to deal with the disease, not just the symptoms. Yes, you can take all the security precautions in the world, but in the end, you're still left dealing with people trying to beat down the gates, so to speak.

And a sign probably won't do any more than draw attention... and uninvited guests. And also may, as was mentioned earlier, end up being a liablity.

So what's that leave you? Not a lot of choices, from where I'm sitting.

The only real solution that I can see is getting the hell out of there, and not talking about things that'll attract unwanted attention when she's gotten someplace else. Anything less than that is only going to be stop-gap measures, at best, and eventually lead to the above, one way or the other.

Wish I could be more helpful, but honestly, that's just the reality of the situation.
