I just have a question. I have been reading up, since my ticket thread, sold them BTW, and was wondering what TN law on Scalping is. I haven't found anything on it and have scoured through the TCA but does anybody know anything on this? I googled it and got "nada" as well. Thanks.

Never done it, but it seems capitalism and I do not see a problem with it. If they by too many and they don’t sale that is the risk they took.

I have been on both ends of this. Like anything else it depends on what side you are on, whetjer or not you like it.

I would rather have it be legal than not. If you REALLY want to see that game/concert/whatever, and didn't have the foresight to buy the tickets in advance, then you at least have the option to see the show.

I DO appreciate it when producers put a limit on ticket sales to one person. But I do NOT think there should be any law about it.

When I typed my first post this morning I was at work and on my phone.

My meaning is capitalism at is finest. They take a risk on buying up tickets and holding them until the time of the show. They are risking their ass that people will pay the price and in the end if they don't tell the tickets they are left holding the bag.

It is almost like bidding for seats, the price is what the market will bare.

If I really want to go to a show, I buy my tickets early or I don't go.

I remember a few years ago a mother was all on the media complaining about how she had to buy her daughter Hannah Montana tickets from an individual after the show sold out thru normal channels. The lady paid what the guy was asking then after the show tried to file charges as well as sue the guy to recoupse some of the moeny she spent. In the end she screwed herself by paying the $3600 the guy was asking for two tickets.

And yes that is not a mis typed number she did in fact spend $3600, thirty six hundred dollars.

That's gotta be the dumbest thing ever for couple concert tickets....I would NEVER spend that much for a show that will last 2-3 hrs long.

Was the woman a blonde? ;)

Don't remember if she was blonde or not but I do remember her trying to garner support by saying her little girl was just so heartbroken as the mother teared up on TV. Her daughter was upset until the mother bought the tickets for $3600. The mother must have been satisfied with the purchase because no one was holding a gun to her head but you would think so the way she made it sound.

And yet another lesson that should be taught to a child. Sometimes you just can't get what you want and you have to deal with it. We see it all the time in the stores. I don't have a problem with a child being upset or even crying because they did not get what they want as long as the parent doesn't cave in.

This just shows the workings of a free market, supply and demand dictates price. I generally don't have a problem with it.

It just goes to show you just how much muscle kids have over their parents now days. It really sickens me. It's one thing to want a better life for your kids but within reason.... giving them a better life doesn't mean giving them everything they ask for. I would have counter sued that B for wasting my valuable time.

Kinda like that guy who bought up every box of ammo at WalMart to resale at shows during the ammo shortage :P

We can call these people 'free market entrepreneurs' all you want. Myself and everyone else in America will keep calling them douches

Douches that got a new pair of shoes.... Thanks to someone not buying tickets early...

I was one of those douches this weekend.. .And normally, when I have good tickets, or wanted tickets to something... I become a douche as well.. I just don't hold onto them as long as some other douches. :P

Just make sure the tickets are real. They have come up with some great looking fakes. My dad bought some football tickets that had the holographic decal and everything. We went to scan them at the entrance, and they told us they were fake.

There was absolutely no need for anyone to buy from someone who did this. It is our own fault by paying the guy(s) inflated prices out of fear. It is the people who fear buy who drive prices up more so than supply and demand or at least it was in the months following Obama's win. I even seen one dealer SELLING (yes selling) CCI Stingers for $27 a box of 50. His catch was that they were "pre June" and didn't go bad in 6 months like the "post June" ammo. Of course it was BS but there were people buying his BS as well as his ammo. Had we not bought from people like this at a profit they would have not even thought about continuing doing it.

I did not buy a single round or any reloading components from anyone other than MAJOR retail stores and rarely had a serious problem finding anything I needed. They were not in as short of supply as everyone thinks. Now I might have to wait a day or two ro call a different store but I could find anythign I needed within a day or two, hardly a critical shortage. Everyone compalined about finding Varget but the Walmart in Halls almost always had it on the shelves as well as a few others.

One thing I did was I would buy just what I needed and leave the rest for someone else. I bought 2k of small rifle primers at Bass Pro in the middle of the supposed shortage. What I left was over 7k for someone else to buy. I guess I could have bought up every single primer then resell them for more than the $29/1K I paid for them but it wasn't worth the hassle.

During this same time I was watching people buy bare bone AR's for $1500 and WASR AK's for $800+. The people who bought them at those prices were fear buying and nothing more. And even in the middle of it I could still get all the components to build an AR. Some stuff I ordered was on backorder but I received it within a few weeks. Definitely not a shortage like most people seemed to complain about.

Caveat emptor.

Find a great deal, and resell for more? Good for you, and good for your customers, who are willing to pay enough for your [X] to cover your costs with some profit.

Find a great deal, and lose your shirt? The market is a tough mistress. When she loves you, she really loves you. When she doesn't, too bad. Evaluate your deals better in the future.

When the crying moroness paid $1800 / ticket for the Hannah Montana show, she agreed to buy another person's goods at an agreed-upon rate. Rather than walking away, she completed that transaction. She traded money for goods she desired; fair, square, and over. Unless she was defrauded or mislead regarding the nature of those tickets (and since she and the daughter got in, we know that's not the case), she's just an idiot who would pay $1800 / ticket to see a 16 year old kid sing for 2 hours. Value is relative, and only applies at the time of purchase, unless and until fraud can be proven. She failed to spend her money wisely.

Caveat Emptor.

Ticket scalping is how I worked my way through college. At that time, you could just camp out and be the first in line (I used to go to the Castner-Knot's downtown Nashville and spend the night). Made a lot of money with little work that allowed me to study. Also lost my arse a few times, but that is risk vs rewards.

Just a little caveat from knowing the scalping game, never go to a concert or a game with a ticket. Wait until right before show time and the scalpers will practically be begging for you to take their tickets usually for less than face value. After the lights go on, they have nothing but useless pieces of cardboard. The key to scalping is sell early because the closer you get to the event, the lower the prices.
