UPDATE - 09/18/2010: The story and footage in this thread is bogus. I apologize for posting without checking the source. See post #11 in this thread for explanation-Red9MM

Hi TGO,

Here's a short video that I got in an email that shows incredible marksmanship.

This is what are our armed forces are capable of putting on the bad guys when properly trained and equipped. God Bless the Canucks for doing that for their military and for loaning them out to us to protect our troops.

I have not seen this posted here before and I apologize if this is a repost of the video.

This is military footage of snipers doing what they do.

I WARN ALL WHO GO PAST THIS POINT!

THE IMAGES IN THE VIDEO SHOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET IN THE CROSSHAIRS OF OUR SNIPERS AND MAY BE DISTURBING TO SOME WEAK LIVERED INDUHVIDUALS.

THE TITLE OF THIS, AS I GOT IT, IS CALLED "PICKING OFF THE TALIBAN"

The text below the link is what came with the original message.

READ IT BEFORE you click the link, it will tell you what you should expect.

DON'T WATCH THE VIDEO if seeing what happens when bad guys and the business end of a .50 BMG round meet would Freak you out.

AGAIN, This is military footage of snipers doing what they do.

Now that is some kinda shooting!

Canadian Snipers in Afghanistan. They never saw it coming!

Canadian Snipers wiping out Taliban Snipers in Afghanistan.

These video shots are not made through the shooter's telescopic sight.

They are made looking through the spotter's scope.

The spotter lies right next to the sniper and helps the sniper find and home in on the target.

The sniper is using a 50 calibre rifle. A 50 cal. round is about 7-8 inches long and the casing is about an inch in diameter.

The bullet itself is one-half inch in diameter and roughly 4 inches long.

Pay close attention to the beginning of the video. A Taliban sniper is laying on top of the peak in front of you. When you hear the shot fired, watch what happens.

The sniper is hitting an enemy soldier at a range of 2,310 meters (7565ft/1.43 miles), the longest recorded and confirmed sniper shot in history.

The previous record of 2,250 meters (7369ft/1.4 miles) was set by US Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock in Vietnam in 1967, The Canadian sniper was at an altitude of 8,599 feet and the target, across a valley was at 9,000 feet.

Canadian sniper units often operated in support of US infantry units, which were grateful for their help. The record lasted only one day, until a second Canadian sniper hit an enemy soldier at 2,400 meters(7860ft/1.48miles).

The Canadian snipers fire special 50-calibre McMillan tactical rifles, which are bolt-action weapons with five-round magazines.

Sorry I thought I had submitted/posted this earlier today but it didn't show up.

My sincere apologies to TGO.

I did some checking after I saw SWJewellTN's post and this video footage in the OP seems to be pieced together from this site;

(Rocky Mountain Varmint Hunters: http://rmvh.com/Movies/ChucksShort3.wmv )

and the story of sniper kills in Afghanistan from early in the war hacked up and thrown on top.

I too fell for the story and bogus footage.

Mea Culpa, I apologize for posting something I had not checked out thoroughly.

I'll pass the correction back to those I received this from so they can "get it right also".

To make up for the bogus story and video here are some other stories from I hope gunienly reliable sources on the Canuck snipers.

Here is a YouTube video from the History Channel story on the 2430 m sniper kill by Canadian Rob Furlong during Operation Anaconda in 2002:

Here's another from Canadian Army News on Canadian Sniper operations:

And this is the wikipedia article about the British Corporal who now holds the record @ 2475m twice over

History channel had a great show on about snipers. The Canadian former record holder guy was being interviewed (he was the record holder at the time of the show's production). Apparently his team was out of ammo, so they had resupplied from an American unit. Same caliber, but the US ammo had a hotter load, giving him extra range at the high altitude. I forget the specifics of the rounds. .50 I think. He said he didn't know if he'd have made the shot with his standard issued ammo.
