Suggest a Krieger 7.7 twist bbl.. it will shoot any size bullet you want..(except the 90gr) allow you to develop really accurate loads.. bbl life.. approx 6-7 thousand rounds.

Look at Stag as far as complete uppers go. They have about the best deal going right now for the money. The biggest thing is to make sure the parts are milspec for longevity sake. You can find non-milspec stuff cheaper but not by much and it may not be as good otherwise they would advertise it. DPMS makes a decent lower parts kit for the money.

Right now JSEsurplus.com has the best deal i have seen going on COMPLETE uppers for $335. That price is for the M4 contour 16" barrel. As for Lowers go, its all in what you want stamped on the side. SpikesTactical.com has a decent deal going for a complete lower with 6-position buttstock for $250. That being said,

JSESurplus upper $335 + $16.63 Shipping (didn't know your address to send it to Nolensville, TN so shipping price is to my house in Knoxville as an Example)

SpikesTactical.com Lower $250 + $14.94 shipping to Nolensville

Grand Total Shipped to your door = $616.57 without taking into consideration your FFL transfer Fee and TICS check.

You'll need optics/sights, mags and ammunition to be fully operational.

If your idea of "building your own AR" is more than putting an upper and lower together, then PM me and I can give you some specifics.

Hope this helps

1) Get a Stripped Lower. Spike's Tactical AR15 Lower Receiver

2) Get a parts kit. Products at Adco Firearms

3) Watch a bunch of videos on how to put them together.

Assemble your own LOWER, UPPER, FREE FLOAT, TRIGGER, GAS BLOCK - Step by step instructions! - AR15.COM

4) Get a complete upper. RifleGear - Upper Assemblies

5) Get a bunch of magazines.

6) Get a bunch of ammo.

EDIT: Go to Brownells and get some punches for installation. You will also need a stock wrench. DPMS makes a great one.

These are just a few of the sites I used to put my AR-15 together. It is worth noting that pretty much any lower will work as they are all generally the same as well as made by the same companies regardless of brand (stamp). Have fun!

Good info Slappy.

I would add getting a Buffer tube, Spring, and Stock.

It all depends on what your use is going to be and your budget. I built a Budget AR using the JSE upper and a plum crazy polymer lower and it came in at $500 after FFL and TICS. It is my favorite out of the 2 I have. I also have a Stag 2l upper on a roggio arsenal lower. My only regret on that was that I didn't spend the extra $20 to get a stag lower (my next purchase). The stags are great products with top notch quality, fit, and finish.

DS Arms has had there complete upper on sale for awhile now for $340 ! ! ! !

The big question is does it come with the BCG and charging handle because for $335 ths JSE does and that's a bill right there.

I am in process of building a new rifle also. I went with a parts kit from Palmetto State that comes with Daniel Defense LPK and magpul furniture. I also ordered my upper from Spikes Tactical. They are the best upper for the money. Spikes uppers are milspec unlike most manufactures that are listed here. I am getting a mid length with a 9" BAR free float tube.

MOE Lower build kit

Just go ahead and triple the budget you originally thought of. Then you might have an AR worthy of this bunch....:panic: But after that you should have one that actually shoots well. :tinfoil:

My route isn't that ridiculously priced. MOE kit $150 + Spikes 16" Upper $525 + Spikes lower from aimsurplus $80 = $755. I think the quality/reliability difference is worth the extra $150-200 myself.

DSGArms.com has MOE kits in any color for $99.95

I did this build: Del-Ton, Inc. AR-15 16" M4 Rifle Kit with an Anvil arms lower.

I've never put one together, and I didn't use any special tools. Punches would have been nice. AR15.com has some good instructions on their site. It was pretty easy. My only experience with them is tearing them down, and putting them back together...quickly. Oh and cleaning and shooting them.

MAGPUL Moe Kit - Black

That is a good price but doesn't come with a LPK. My last rifle was a delton but i wanted a free float tube and magpul furniture so it was better to sell it. It only had one FTE with steel case ammo.

DynamicArmament.com has LPK (DPMS) for $45.99. So a complete lower with Magpul MOE Furniture, DPMS internals and an LRB lower from Widener's for $231 before shipping.

I myself am putting the DPMS internals in a Spike's Lower with Magpul furniture and I'm gonna go through the process of getting a suppressed SBR.
