I could do without the "BG" rollmarks all over it, but the knife looks nice and the price is right.

Don't much care for the serrations. Wish it was made with a non-serrated edge and in carbon steel. Think I'll stick with my Mora 780 and put the saved money toward a Wetterlings Hunting axe

As much as I want to like it, the knife just isn't doing much for me.

I love having both a sharpener and a firestarter in the sheath. The full tang is a must. The steel pommel is a nice feature. The roll marks and branding are a detraction. So are the serrations in my opinion - you've got to use a sharp edge on those ferro rods, so, your either going to be screwing up the serrations or be stuck going further up the blade to the plain edge. That is going to result in a loss of control which could lead to an injury in a survival situaiton.

On a small side note, I feel bad for Rob Bayley, the original maker of Bear Grylls' knives It's a bad day when a fine custom builder like Rob (I know the guy personally) gets screwed over by a big company like Gerber, who can afford to pay a huge sum to use the Bear Grylls brand and then manufacture a far inferior product. Shame.

The original was a far nicer (If way more spendy...) knife.

Nice looking knife. I'd just be afraid it would make me have the sudden urge to foolishly jump off of waterfalls or try to cross gorges on old, half-rotten tree trunks and call it an attempt to 'survive' rather than the more obvious (and probably more accurate) 'trying to get myself killed'.

Im not sure about all gerber knifes but Ive got a covert and it kinda sucks :/ and it came with pretty much no edge. Just my novice opinion

On the other hand, I can buy pretty much any knife I want, but choose to EDC a Gerber Profile folder, 20 bucks.

Came pretty sharp, a little attention and it's VERY sharp.

Yep I have a Gerber Para straight edge and it has been fine. It was $20 bucks at Walmart. I also have a Gerber Gator skin or some such that is half serrated. I have used both for a long time. I do not like Gerbers Multitool blades though. They are quite thin.

I do not use it for anything besides the occasional packaging, 550 cord, envelope, etc cuts though.

Aside from the firestarter and the squared off back end it looks a lot like the Gerber Infantryman knife that I have.

This is by far my favorite knife: http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/products/MOD854.html serrated back and small portion of the blade, handle feels great in the hands, beats the crap outta any Gerber or Benchmade that I have.
