Cop dead from barfight.

An Oklahoma officer gets in a fight in a Little Rock, gets hit in the nose, hits the floor and dies soon after, and what does the perp get? Out on $10,000 bail. Where are the Boondock Saints when you really need them? I'd expect them to hold him for more until the details are in.

"LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An Oklahoma police officer who was in Arkansas for sniper training was punched in the nose during a bar fight and later died at a hospital.

Police say 25-year-old Elzie Cain got into a fight with 26-year-old Aaron Threlkeld at about 4:00 a.m. Sunday at the Electric Cowboy in Little Rock.

Cain hit his head on the floor and died at a hospital Sunday afternoon. Little Rock police spokesman Lt. Terry Hastings says Threlkeld was arrested for first-degree battery but said he expects the charge to be upgraded to first-degree murder.

Authorities didn't know Monday whether Threlkeld had an attorney. He was released Sunday on $10,000 bond.

Cain was in the Little Rock area for training as part of his duty with the Oklahoma National Guard."

Nothing good comes from hanging in a bar. He was a LEO. He should have know better than to be out getting into bar brawls. Let this serve as a reminder to all. Use your head. Sucks that he died but that's the chance you take when you role them dice.

I always told my kids "nothing goods happens when you're out past midnight". This is doubly true if you're in a bar.

Something is up with this. I'm all pro-cop and pro-soldier when it comes to being on duty usually, but we are all human and we all do stupid stuff when we're out drinking. First-degree battery for punching a guy? OK I can see that. First degree murder because he fell and died? I'm not real sure about that. Manslaughter would be more what I would think. Unless the Suspect was just pummeling him and screaming "I'll kill you!", I'm gonna say they'll have a hard time making that charge stick.

On the other note I think alot of it depends on the bars you go to and you're amount of self control.

Some people deserve to be punched in the nose, cop or not. It is very unfortunate that he died from that, both for the guy that punched him and the family of the officer. I don't know that he should be tried for murder, though.

They'll charge him with 1st degree murder so they can plea bargain him down to a lesser charge and still claim a conviction. Like you said, unless he somehow verbalized his intention to actually kill the guy with a punch in the nose, there is no way they can prove premeditation. But they'll use that to scare him into accepting a plea bargain. I hope he has a good lawyer, assuming of course this was just your run of the mill bar fight.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I'm seriously not trying to make light of this, but I seem to remember there was a Law and Order episode or some show like this. Two guys fight, dude falls and dies, turns out he had something wrong in his brain and the fall just happened to be the catalyst.

It just sounds weird, how many people get socked in the face, fall, and die?

Me either if it had happened here then I would say at most manslaughter if even that. Honestly, I dont think a jury here would convict someone for punchin someone in the nose and then hitting their head and dying from it cuz technically it aint their fault the person died. Yeah negligent homicide maybe but even that would be hard to prove I would say.

I, too, would like some additional information. Based on the facts here, in Tennessee, at least, he shouldn't be charged with anything higher than voluntary manslaughter and could be Criminally Negligent Homicide. If it really was a fight, then unless he was the aggressor, he shouldn't be charged with anything.

This is a tragic event. I've meet a lot of LEO's that deserve to be punched in the nose {I used to work for law enforcement} A lot think the law applies to everyone else but them. There is truely some good LEO'S out there. Im sure that there is more to the story than what is reported so far.
