Can anyone recommend a Shooting Range where you can shoot out to 1,000 yards? I checked the Shooting Range Database and didn't see anything listed in Hickman county. Thanks.

The range is on the base, AEDC. They closed it to civilians when the war started and moved the state hi power championships to oak ridge. Evidently the club has access again. AFAIK its the 'highland rim rod and gun club'. They should have a listing with the CMP. I doubt they have a web page. They aren't web page kinda guys.

Mugler's got it right. Contact for Highland Rim is a gentleman by the name of Chris Hayes. Can't say that I've seen a notice go out recently about the next competition.. last one I saw was tail end of sept '07.

May have gotten dropped, been 3 years since I went out there for one.

1k is a pain. I dont have the gear for it. Most of the guys there are pretty nice, but they expect you to have your stuff together when you come out. It's a competition, not a practice round.

When I went the guys would generally let you borrow a rifle after they were done, esp if they had ammo left they needed to burn off. Once in a while you'd get a fellow setting up a new rifle that he'd be willing to let you test fire. Wasn't for me tho, its entirely technical. Rifles were rested and bagged heavily.

AEDC is NOT an open range. its national guard primarily, with the club getting a little bit of time on the side as it befits the military. If you do go to compete, expect to have to spend time on road guard duty (1k range requires a road closure) and in the target pitt pulling down and checking the paper.

when you care enough to send the very best.....:)

what are you throwing that bullet with, deo?

Remington 700 Police, I just picked it up in the spring (traded off a Chinese M14 that had major problems) and haven't been able to attempt any shots over 100 yards. I'm new to the long range stuff and wanted to see if there was any place nearby where I could wring it out a little.

Oh and sorry about the nickname... it's latin and when you shorten it to "deo" you're calling me God. So... just referring to me as Bryan works for me.

Thanks for all the great responses so far... have I mentioned that I love Tennessee? :):):)

You can get 300 yards at Terry's place in manchester, and its only $5 to shoot there. It is on a bit of a downward slope, but other than that, its a nice range.

I just moved up here from Texas in June and have been looking for a good 1,000 range to shoot. I had a good one in Denver, a fair one in Houston. I've got the gear, but I prefer an informal range. I prefer to shoot prone. I have my M21 and a bolt gun. The Houston range required I stay on the bench. Denver range was "no adult supervision".

i want one. /sadface

don't be envious, I threw a lot of money at it, way more than it is worth. The results are great, but certainly not cost-effective. This is what it did for me when I swapped the rings and rezeroed... 3/3 shot groups @ 100 yards. lower left, upper right after 2 clicks and again after 4 clicks. If I were to build another one, I wouldn't, but I wanted a 1,000 yrd autoloader. Lesson learned. (click on picture for full sized image)
