Maybe none of us know anything, but we're all convinced we do and sometimes we just happen to agree because what we think we know is the same as what everyone else we are talking to at that time thinks as well.

And therein lies a true pearl of wisdom.

I think it boils down to a simple definition of "belief". that is something that can not be proven so a person believes it to be so, and yet the "other side" can be right at the same time. Which is why I almost never participate in those discussions, most people can't state what they believe to be true or right and accept that someone else can have a different opinion and walk away, someone HAS to be right so then it gets heated. Cheer up people, its just a "belief". :D

Agree. I may argue when an "expert" opinion might get somebody killed, but only to a point.

What's hilarious to me are the ones who take what you say so personally that they want to meet you somewhere to "discuss it". :D

Now, I'm not a genius, but I ain't stupid, neither.

Punisher, I've been thinking the same thing for a little bit now too. Honestly, I've stayed completely out of the "God Did Not Create the Universe" thread, however I know that isn't the only controversial thing "typed" about on here. This is my point of view though: If I read the first post and go, "Wow, this sucks." I either put something dumb as a post, or just don't post at all, normally the dumb thing. :)

To me, the argumentativeness here isn't anything different than you would see at a group meeting, more often than not. I've seen CHURCHES get in more heating, hating debates than the TGO'ers here seem to. I think it has everything to do with an opinion. We're all here because we love Firearms. All Types, Most Makes, as long as it's a Glock, and "The Rest", as long as it starts with a .4. :P It's the fact that someone thinks something different, but along the same lines as someone else thinks it. We're all convinced that a post on TGO is going to change someone. Grant it, if it is "The Best Type of Plinker Ammo" there's a chance, especially if the OP is asking a question, but if it's concerning God, Calibers or something else that a few of us own up to, and others don't, there's going to be friction. The world is built on friction, it wouldn't last without it.

I think of TGO as a larger extension of my family. YES, there are those that I would like to meet and hit with something heavy, but I wanna do that to a couple of my family members, too. I love it here, honestly, I'm on here all the time, and 90% of the time, the spirit that we as posters get on a certain topic is why we are "Benefactors", "Moderators", and have THOUSANDS of posts. The difference in opinion along with the sense of wanting to talk about it, is what a forum is built for. Yes, there are those that take it to far, but those are like the guys at the fair, when they're shooting basketballs, that check the wind speed and direction.. Just pure "Overachievers" and when it bricks of the side of the rim, they'll come back next year, and try the exact same thing again.

Bottom Line... I like this place. Grant it there are few that I don't see eye-to-eye with, but just take it with a grain of salt. Keep living, keep shooting, and let's keep having fun.

This sounds like an engineer talking. Jk, that was well said.

I do, however, agree with the OP. I am not as active as many others one here, but I do enjoy spending a little time here. I think it is healthy to be able to have spirited debate when both sides are able to be mature about it and understand that other people are not going to agree with you just because you say it is so.

What bothers me most about people debating, and it is true here as it is in any other theatre, is when people intentionally instigate a debate that has been known to piss a bunch of people off and go nowhere. Why would you come to a gun website, granted there is an off-topic section, and start a debate about abortion, religion, or even politics for that matter? I guess some people are just walking around way to happy and think, "I need to find a way to kill the mood." It defies logic for me, and it makes time spent here less enjoyable.
