a dove gun.

Here's the story. I got invited up to Indiana to go shoot some doves tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The guy who invited me said I just have to bring myself, gear, and a gun.

As far as dove hunting, I have never been. If you can throw out some hints and tips, I'd appreciate it. I have however hunted my fair share of pheasant, having spent about six years in the Dakotas. I do have a 20 gauge over/under. Is that an appropriate piece, or can I use this as a wonderful excuse to goto the fun store on my way out of town?

Thanks fellas,

John.

That will work just fine. But if a do get another gun remember you can only have 3 shells in the gun. So really other than just using it as an excuse to getting another gun no big advantage by getting one.

I would also suggests some various chokes. Full for when the birds are flying high and Modified for everything else. If they are all over the place, I have put a full on one barrel and Modified or maybe Improved Cylinder on the other. I've had the most luck with Full chokes on both barrels.

Well fellas it went great.

They both were using 12 gauge but I didn't feel pit gunned. I used 7 1/2 shells and got myself a good number of birds. The wife wrapped them in Bacon, seasoned them up and they were great on the grill.

Now I have to find myself a spot near Nashville or near my lake house in Smithville / Sparta. So if you know a spot or your looking for a hunting buddy shoot me a pm me.

Dove hunting is about as much fun as you can have with a shotgun. I used to pretend I was at Pearl Harbor and the doves were jap planes. An over and under 20 will do just fine. You can make a plug for a shotgun out of a number two pencil. If you decide to get another shotgun.
