Mp 9MM FS vs G19..

may i ask how the glock an 1911's you speak of have the same trigger?

Meaning they have the same 4.5-5lb trigger pull. Which is what I personally like my carry guns to have. Sure they have some difference (OK with a good 1911 the trigger is much better in crispness and smoothness), but that difference is minimal in comparison to the trigger pull on say a DS/SA pull (such as the 228 I used to carry or the HK45C or my revolvers) or one being heavy and the other being set very light (3-3.5lbs).

In other words I can easily transition between these guns with little transition or notice. Even on my Glocks I thumb down a safety when I pull from the holster and put my hands in the same place on every gun. If I can't do that, I won't carry the gun. I recently came to that conclusion on a gun I liked to shoot, the HK45C. When I placed my hands on the gun I was riding the slide release and it kept the gun from locking back on the last shot. That and the fact that the first pull was DA I decided I would not carry the gun and I sold it. I could have altered my grip and solved the issue. But, I don't like to have to alter my grip to shoot a gun I am carrying. If I carried this type of weapon all the time it could easily be changed and same with DA first pull.

Muscle memory is too important to establish and in the heat of the moment you will revert to what you do most. So I stick with carry guns which all fit my grip and comfort zone for trigger pull, trigger set up, etc. I have Glocks in multiple sizes allowing me to easily transition depending on what I am wearing w/o any basic change in weapon design.

This really goes away from the original question posed. I like the M&P fine. If it had been out 15 years ago I might well have chosen to buy that instead of Glocks. However, it wasn't and I have too much in the Glocks and their accessories to simply switch.

My choices are not necessarily what is best for everybody. They are what's best for me. I don't like change. I took my first pistol defensive training at Gunsite with Cooper back 20 years ago. At the time I had been shooting bullseye competitions. Man that was a tough switch as it was foreign to me. I focused my energies on getting that right. Since then I have pretty much focused all of my pistol energies on defensive type shooting. In this past year I have moved away from the Weaver method and toward an Isosceles method of shooting, another big change, for me anyway. I am still making that switch and had my own reasons for making the switch. I will admit that I am not a natural pistol shooter, like I am with a rifle or shotgun. I really have to work at it hard. I have a natural instinct on a sporting clays course and can prepare for long shots on hunts with minimal effort. So for me I make as few changes as possible.

Sorry for the ramble, but I thought I would give some background as to why I came to the conclusions I did. Each has to make their own way and find their own comfort level. After 20 years of carrying this is where I find my comfort zone.

Warranty? Is that where you send your busted gun back to the manufacturer? Did you say Smith doesn't have one?

When the M & P has been around as long as the Glock and they have proven to hold up under severe misuse then I might broaden my horizon. Until then I will stay with the gun that has already passed the test of time.

How about all the 36 failure to return to battery problems ? Or the other sf issues?

i got a glock 23 that i have never had one problem out of. no nuthin of the m&p but i find my glock hard to beat

I was looking at a M&P 9 or 40 for a while before I gave up on the idea. The M&Ps felt nice and they were easier to shoot with precision, but I ended up with a Glock 19 and 23. Why?

-Glock 19 is lighter

-Glock 19 is smaller

-Glock 19 holds 15 rounds in a compact body (it's so efficient!)

-Glock 19 is accurate and I can shoot them well enough

-Glock 19 mags are dirt cheap

-Glock 19 has a proven reputation

-Glock 19 has a .22 conversion kit available

-Glock holsters are interchangeable to a point and everybody makes one

When M&Ps are on blowout again with some crazy rebate offer, I might get one.

Because the G22 has proven to be so reliable and never blow up in the hands of a user. Glocks have their issues too and I would put any of my smiths up against a glock any day of the week. My 40c is hands down better shooting than any glock I have ever shot. Must be good enough for the ATF too because they just beat out Glock! Investors - Press Releases - Smith & Wesson

Actually both Glock and S&W were awarded contracts.

The M&P is a better gun for YOU in YOUR hands. No one firearm is the best choice for everyone. M&P and Glock are both excellent weapons.

It's significant that BOTH pistols went thru rigorous testing, and both got contract awards. It really is about which one you like best, without worrying about which will perform better.

I love my 45c and I will be the first to admit that the stock trigger is at best roughly equivalent to stirring a gravel milkshake. Throw the apex duty kit in the M&P and it's night and day difference. 5.25# pull, no grit, no gravel, and a nice short, distinct reset that really helps with double taps.

I would like glocks if they offered an external safety and a grip that actually fit my hand.

While you are comparing compact guns throw in the Ruger SR9C. That little compact is pretty nice with a decent trigger. A friend has one, I like it, but won't deviate from my Glock 9mms for something that isn't a quantum leap ahead in value, durability, relibility, and accuracty. I had a M&P and the only thing I didn't like is that the internals are a little "fiddley" compared to Glock. I sort of hate to say this, but the slickest carry gun that makes sense to me besides a G19, G26, SP101 is a Star BM. A tad heavy, but a "smooth" carry gun, points well, can be slicked up, but is now discontinued so have to make sure you have springs and spare parts.
