Vols Football 2010

Kiffin was not a good recruiter, and then attempted to get the recruits he did get for UT to not sign and move with him to USC... So, in effect, Dooley is dealing with a recruit class which definitely is weak, and does not mesh with his game plans. This is how Kiffin has fully impacted this year's team.

The SEC now has too many High End College teams. Alabama and Florida are always powerhouses. Georgia, LSU, and Auburn should not be dismissed either. These plus UT make a crowded conference. In addition, other teams (Mississippi, Arkansas, South Carolina) can produce teams which excel as well. Put any of the listed teams in other conferences, and they would be at the top...

So. How does this end? I expect Tennessee to win against UT-Martin, UK, Vandy, UAB, Memphis, and then it gets iffy...

As for the Budget for the Coach, the Tennessee Board of Regents probably have a say, or at least a big influence, on the limit. Try to get the average Tennessean to accept a $5 million coach pay right now... Heck, they cant even get their so called head of the board a $80,000 raise... (IMHO the new head should not have been allowed... but that is another discussion...)

The only thing I can say about Kiffin is I gave him too much credit. I got sucked into his swagger and thought he was the answer to all of UT's problems. The one thing I know about Lane Kiffin is he looks out for one person and one person only, and that is Lane Kiffin. He will drop USC like a bad habbit the minute another NFL team comes calling. The people he screwed over were the assistant coaches and support staff that lost their jobs when he left. I do admit that I smiled when the scanctions came down from the NCAA for USC. These were not his fault, but I am sure he will have plenty more come his way. The way Kiffin recruits is not made for the long haul. He makes too many promises that he can't keep over time. Bryce Brown was not even the 2nd best running back at UT last year. But Kiffin promised him playing time in his first year if he came to UT, so he got the 2nd most carries. And the only reason he didn't start over Hardesty is because Kiffin knew the team would revolt.

I expect UT to go 6-6 this year. I like Coach Dooley. He reminds me of Pat Summitt. He is very intense on the field and never seems to be satisfied. He didn't crack a smile during the game tonight until there was less than three minutes left. I think he is a good fit at UT. He is a son of the SEC and embraces the traditions at UT. One thing I did notice after the game was the "yes sir's and no sir's" during the post game interviews. Tauren Poole and David Oku looked really good running the ball. Simms wasn't great throwing the ball. And the kickoffs didn't look good at all. But the team that no one in the media is giving a chance usually has a few surprises throughout the season. Any given team can win on any givern day, just ask Ole Miss and Michigan from a few years ago. It is going to take time to get back to one of the elite teams in the NCAA, I just hope they (UT admin. and fans) give Dooley time to show us what he can do.

Go Vols!

NCAA sanctions against USC are from Pete Carrol's regime.

For the record, Kiffin was Carroll's recruiting coordinator while he was @ USC.

And yah @ coach quitting - I don't hear any UT fans moaning about how unfair it was to La Tech for Dooley to leave closer to signing day than Kiffin left UT...
