busted cherry and lots of smoke

I just got back in from the woods, spending about two hours expressing my love for the 1858 Remmy Army.

Took a bit to get in a rythm with loading but after a couple cylinders full I had a good flow to it and loading five rounds did not take that long. no clue how someone in a battle did it with balls zipping around in their direction.

I had forgot about the aroma that comes with BP, a wonderful stink along with a nice smoke screen.

The point of aim with the sights is a little low, but it was easy enough to just hold the front sight a little high to get it where I wanted it to go. Somewhere down the road i might dremel a little bit off of it so it will sit where it should. Not going to do that until I am done experimenting with loads and such.

Can't wait to do it again this Saturday. Now comes the not so fun part, heading to the kitchen sink for cleaning her up.

I don't think I've ever done BP cleanup un the sink. Then again I shoot cap-lock rifles. But I did do cleanup for one of those in a motel bathtub once.

Recommendation: Don't do that.

Well, I guess that I can finally say I've busted my BP cherry too. I was able to get over to Mike's today and he let me pull off a few rounds with his new BP work of art. I must say, not really what I expected, but it was pretty cool all the same. I guess I was expecting this thing to have masive kick like an old Mauser, or Mousin rifle, but I was pleasently surprised. Took a lot to work up several loads, but it was a neat experience. Plenty of smoke, but a lot of fun all the same......Thanks Mike

Glad you brought up the idea of shooting today Boom. It was a real good time. I enjoyed shooting your P3AT and your Springer.

The 1858 while a slow to load is a lot of fun to shoot. Most people expect some enormous kick to it but the revolver is built like a brick shi...errr outhouse and handles the recoil well. I enjoy the wait while the smoke clears to see where the hole in the target is. Anyway I think we put 25 rounds through it, great fun.

Nice to see you have become a brass whore now, lol Glad I was not the only one there worried about getting brass back.

Pokey you missed out dude

I'm just glad that there are a few of you guys, that I've meet on here, willing to loan a fellow (acreless) shooter a place to spend a little flesh to metal bonding time.

.

actually, they preloaded more than one cylinder, and changed them out when one ran empty.

:(
