FBI Identification Request

So I'm getting ready to get back to work, my kid is sufficiently trained, so I want to make some dough. I'm looking at the easy stuff, contract stuff.

Anyway, one semi shady place wants a FBI background check. Happy to oblige I suppose, but it turns out to do the background check they need fingerprints. I've never been finger printed so I don't know how it helps.

Anyway, I've been thinking about getting a permit so I don't suppose it is a big deal. My question is where can I get this done, and can I just do it once? THe FBI place says they require paper but I hear everyone else is full on electronic.

Plus, if they want it for employment shouldn't they be covering the bill?

Thanks

I've been printed to purchase NFA items (machine guns, SBR, SBS, sound suppressors) and I got mine done by the Sheriff's department. All the ones for BATFE have to be paper also. They print me free of charge as long as I bring my on fingerprint cards which you can free from the BATFE.

In short, they can run your prints and compare against crimes I guess and or see if you are on file under any other names.

You know you haven't been printed before but they aren't just going to take your word for it.

I got my in Knoxville west side at 'Going Postal'.

Edit.

Opps, sorry missed the part about needing it on paper, Going Postal is digital.

Honestly, a few years back, when I needed to be printed for a background check to get a job in the Afterschool Program for K-4 graders... I had to get printed on paper. They gave me the cards, and I went to the jail, walked in the foyer and said, "I need to be printed for a background check." They told me to fill out the cards, I complied, and then they took me back and did the fingerprint thing, just like a criminal. Sent off the cards, and I got the job 4 days later.

Yep. My department does it for the public for a nominal fee. Many other LE agencies will do it as well.

I do believe that you'll have to get another set of prints for the HCP, period; best done at place that does the electronic version.

But those ARE paid for in your $115 app fee.

I must have missed the original question about that. Yeah, you'll have to get them done again. The FBI has gotten my prints so many times, they probably recognize my finger prints on sight.

when we had a kid I quit working to take of the kid. The wife and I didn't want to do the daycare thing, she made more money so...

By semi shady I mean I am pretty sure this guy is just yanking my chain. But he says he has some work for me if I get a FBI background check. Which is no problem I guess (thanks everyone for the answers).

I think I'll just forget his bluster (I have a strong suspicion he is full of it) and get my permit instead. If he's so certain he can get me some work he can trust I passed a FBI background check by looking at my HCP.

So, what's the least boring HCP class around?
