4 year old soccer

Recommended Posts

Well the wife and I signed up my little girl (4 years old) for soccer Monday at the Bert Ferguson Community Center out in Cordova. This should be interesting. I have only a very rude and basic understanding of soccer, so I guess it is time for me to learn about the sport the rest of the world calls football, or futbal.

you being in the Memphis area...I'm sure there will be a Soccer Hooligan's group associated with this youth league for the parents...wasn't there like a girls T-ball league or something? Man soccer its infecting us...FUTBAL now...whats next? Bocci bowl...darts and sport drinking?

If you have ever seen a covey of quail....same thing.

It's a lot of fun to watch. After about 3 practices, practices become useless. The first few will show them kind of what the object is, after that, they don't do much.

Have fun!

I coached soccer when they were that young. It's a hoot! They get led

around the field by the coach and some catch on quicker than others,

but it is fun. You can't really tell the difference between practice and a real

game, at that age. It's mostly just fun. You don't need any understanding

of the game at all. My youngest son started playing then, and that had

something to do with me ending up as the coach.

He graduated from UTK last semester and still plays some soccer.

My knees are still shot, and it was fun.

Yeah I hear they are looking for coaches to volunteer and I wouldn't mind but it would the same as me trying to tell how to pilot a plane. I understand the jest of it, just don't know what in the heck is going on.

I have told that is is fun to watch them at that age play. I am excited and she can not stop talking about it.

Mustangdave, I have seen "Green Street Hooligans" and I might just have to start up a gang. lol

My little girl started at 4. Two years latter she's still at it. She scored 6 goals last Saturday and is a rough player.

It is a blast to watch . Everyone is right about there is not much difference between practice and the game.

You'll spend most of the time watching the kids play in the dirt, chase bugs, pick their nose, occasionally kick the ball (after which they lose interest and do one of the other activities on this list), do assorted silly stuff with the other kids on the fields regardless of team, etc.. It's fun to watch and kind of exciting when they realize the more they kick the ball toward the goal the more the parents yell and cheer. :)

My five year old played at the beginning of summer.

As a fan of the game it was hard for me to watch when my 9 y/o started when he was 6. There is not much organization and they aren't learning "how to play". I do wish they would start them out in actual positions @ a young age rather than have 4 strikers and 1 goalkeeper.

Get perpared to repeatedly yell, "NO BUNCHING!!!" And the scoring from kickoff is hillarious.

I screwed my son up when I told him to space himself away from his team mates when they have the ball so they can pass it to him when he is wide open because ALL 7 of the other kids are going to fkock to the ball. Well he never got the ball unless he intercepted it himself, so I later told him "go ahead and bunch".

Cool deal. I will do that.

Speaking of that, we need to get together and have a beer or two soon.
