Oregon coast

So I just finished running the Nike Hood to Coast out in Oregon. 2 days - 197 miles - from the top of Mt. Hood out to the coast.

Every time I run it, I'm struck by how beautiful the Oregon coast is. Definitely something you should see once in your life. It's completely different than the Gulf or Atlantic beaches. If you're ever looking for a great way to spend 4 or 5 days, I could think of a lot worse ways to spend your vacation.

It's a relay, so you aren't doing the whole thing by yourself. You are basically running a marathon in three parts. Only a few people run it solo. And they are amazing.

Yeah, I think a great vacation would be to take your time driving up that stretch of coast, enjoying the small coastal towns.

On another note, I sat next to a gut on the plane who was on the winning team in the SuperMasters division (entire team over 60). They won in 23:15:00 for an average mile split over the 197 miles of 5:55! That's unbelievable and awe inspiring at the same time.

Damn. I ran 4.3 miles last night at an 8:34 pace and all I got to say is, Damn.

I drove that back last year, Cannon Beach, back to Portland, then around Mt. Hood, and back to Portland. Beautiful.
