LEAD BAN THWARTED.

Late Friday, 27August10, the EPA issued a statement saying the proposed ban on lead in ammunition and fishing equipment was not going to happen.

Apparently due to the fact that Congress had specifically excluded these from the ban previously.

So, looks like we dodged yet another attempt on our 2A rights. We all know this isnt the end of it. The anti-gunners are constantly trying to conjur up ways to impede our 2A rights, now that its an "established" right....like it wasnt for 230+ years already...they try to figure up ways to make it more expensive, more difficult to exercise, just a general pain in the ass.

I must say I take GREAT satisfaction every time they are defeated. The loooong faces and hand wringing and talk of "going back to the Wild West" are freakin hilarious to me.

Even though they cant point out a single instance to back up that claim, theyll spout it every time.

Anyway, good news for us today at least!

nothing has hurt the anti gun crowd worse than the promises of the "wild wild west" if concealed carry got passed. Once those dire predictions failed to appear or even come close to appearing the whole argument kind of slipped away. So now they are stuck with these back door methods to try and keep guns away from everybody. Their continued failure makes me feel good.

The decision was a huge victory for the National Rifle Association which just seven days ago asked that the EPA reject the petition, suggesting that it was a back door attempt to limit hunting and impose gun control. It also was a politically savvy move to take gun control off the table as the Democrats ready for a very difficult midterm election.

And there in lies a majority of the reason for dropping this issue like hot cakes.... Political gain!

To those of you who bitch & moan about the NRA, and for the record, I dont agree with some of what theyve done, but here is a prime example of your dues working for us gunowners. Not to mention the recent 2A victory from the Supremes. They DO do some good, lets keep that in mind.

Perfect? No. Made mistakes/errors? Yes. But they ARE a force to be reckoned with on Capital Hill, the libs freely admit that.

I don't know but Barnes tipped TSX bullets suck for hunting N.American deer. No expansion for me! I assume the Nosler "green" are the same. I want lead in my bullets core! At least as far as hunting goes. Lead came from the Earth.....were just sending it back with velocity

I keep any lead I come across, whether lead slugs from bullets, wheel weight etc. never know if I will need to melt it down someday. but at least not to soon.

Attack on Traditional Ammunition Not Over

Groups Seeking Ban Look to Challenge EPA Decision

The groups leading the charge to ban traditional ammunition in the United States are continuing efforts to secure the ban despite being blocked by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), the American Bird Conservancy (ABC) and several other groups filed a petition seeking a nationwide ban on traditional ammunition and fishing tackle on August 3. The EPA denied the portion of the petition dealing with banning traditional ammunition in an August 27 letter from Steve Owens, EPA assistant administrator for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention. Owens wrote that the agency did not have the legal authority to review the petition to ban traditional ammunition, though the EPA would continue to review the potential ban on traditional fishing tackle.

The decision did not sit well with CBD and ABC. The groups issued a joint press release on September 9 indicating they were not going to accept the EPA decision and that the CBD had sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the EPA for “all documents related to the agency’s partial denial of the petition.”

Typically, a FOIA request precedes some form of legal action by the group making the request.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) and other groups have repeatedly pointed out that scientific evidence connecting ammunition containing lead to the harm of wildlife populations does not justify further restrictions beyond those currently in place. A ban on traditional ammunition would force sportsmen to purchase higher cost alternatives and decrease the number of days spent in the field as it prices sportsmen out of the market. In turn, it would reduce funding for conservation made available through the taxes on licenses and gear purchased by sportsmen.

“The EPA decision to dismiss the petition was the correct one legally and preserves the funding for conservation of wildlife nationwide,” said Rob Sexton, USSA vice president for government affairs. “Clearly, the CBD and others are getting ready for a big fight, we simply hope that valid science and not alarmist propaganda wins the day.”

The petition to ban traditional ammunition and fishing tackle was filed under the Toxic Substances Control Act, which regulates dangerous chemicals. The CBD, ABC and others argue that the use of traditional ammunition is dangerous to certain types of wildlife, including numerous birds, which scavenge on parts of game that remain in the field.
