Question for those in or around Chattanooga (or those who aren't but may know the answer...) -

Is there anything posted about carry inside the Chattanooga Convention Center?

Thanks in advance.

I think the booze by the drink would veto carring there.

I don't know about that location, but I keep seeing posts about not carrying in a government owned building. You can carry in state, county, and municipally owned buildings unless they are posted, or some other reason, like alcohol service exists to prevent carry. You can even carry in a courtroom, as long as court is not in session if it isn't posted (it will be).

Sullivan county has a courthouse and annex. Neither is posted. Handgun carry, with a permit, is completely legal there.

I know it is owned by the city and there is a bar in the building so that may preclude carrying a CCW.On the other hand they used to have gun shows down there for years. But there is an exemption for gun or sports shows in public areas or buildings.

i think it is allowed.i have a friend with a hcp that was carrying to the world of wheels, and he made it back home without incident, but he didnt go around announcing it either!

I used to work security for them. The official policy is that anyone who carries a gun in is asked to place it in there vehicle. Gun shows were the exception, as they were allowed to have unloaded guns. There are no posted signs. It is jointly owned by the government, and a private corporation.

The Trade center does not have a fixed bar, but it does have the beer/alcohol license and it can set one up and sell by the drink for consumption on site.

I do not know how the law works in such a case, as most events do not have alcohol involved.

There are cameras everywhere, but the security is mainly a joke. If you carried concealed, nobody would know. I never saw anyone searched, and before I left they were in the process of emasculating the security guards even more.

If I ever had to go down there, I would carry concealed. The parking garage routinely had problems, generally just someone slashing tires, or smashing windows and stealing things, but it was not a rare occurrence to have to go out there and deal with someone whose vehicle had been smashed/robbed. Leave your gun in your car, and you had better hope nobody tries to break in. The parking garage cameras are broken for the most part. The ones in the building work fine, but in the garage? Ha!

Thanks. Never saw the first posting, sticker, or sign at any door/entrance yesterday...

I drove by there this morning for the first time since the renovation(I don't go downtown much).I saw no signs on the entrances.I did notice however that the bar/nightclub is no longer there on the bottom floor.I also saw a bunch of cheerleaders freezing their cute little butts off going inside.

All ages (3yoa to 20+). The University of GA's squad competed yesterday - pretty disappointing. My 9 year old's team's routine was tougher. FWIW, the bar is on the second floor, attached on the hotel side. The convention center and hotel are physically attached - not sure what the "line of separation" actually is. Nice folks in Chattanooga - had a nice visit.

et45,

I worked that event when I still worked there. They may be cute to you, but I could not stand the spoiled brats. Slashing tires, breaking glass. Yah. You have fun, I am glad I don't work that event anymore. The only good those those rotten children brought, was massive overtime. And the fact that the organizer of the event had tons of left-over candy he gave us.

Medic,

The bar you reference is the Marriots (at least, when I worked it a few years ago it was.) As for the line of separation, look for the carpet style changing. When you hit the top of the escalators, you should be able to see the difference after a few steps. We can drop the gates right there, and you have the line of theirs, and ours. Just keep in mind, while the buildings are attached, the Marriot, and the CTC/parking garage are separate legal entities.

They be on the list, but unless it is posted per TN code - then it is open. They could request you to leave - but that would be the extent of it. I have not seen any business properly posted in the way it would need to be to actually be a legal notification. All this is to be on a sign the meets certain minimum size requirements.

PURSUANT TO T.C.A. § 39-17-1359, THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF THIS PROPERTY HAS BANNED WEAPONS WITHIN THIS BUILDING OR THIS PORTION OF THIS BUILDING. A VIOLATION OF THIS PROHIBITION IS PUNISHABLE AS A CRIMINAL ACT UNDER STATE LAW AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO A FINE OF NOT MORE THAN $500.

Flyboy, you seem to have ignored the posts about how the convention center at times sells alcohol.

I wonder about that. Is the trade center off lmits, when serving, but ok to carry when dry? (Strictly from a legal standpoint.)
