Gun use in the TV series LOST

First of all, let me say that I am a big Lost fan. Say what you will about the show, I have seen every episode and think it's a great show. However, one aspect of the show that has always irked me is the show's blatant lack of correctness in using prop guns. Listed below are just a few of the things I have seen while watching:

1. Only chambering a round (racking the slide) when there is imminent danger (the rest of the time they carry condition 3, even with rifles)

2. Holding someone at gunpoint by jamming a pistol into their side (taking it out of battery and most likely rendering it useless)

3. Constantly removing the magazine from a gun (which they have carried for several episodes without firing) and counting the rounds.

4. Holding the pistol sideways with one hand while firing. (gangster style?)

5. During a single scene, I have seen a single character hold a Beretta 92 FS, a Sig P226, and a Glock (the gun changing each time the camera cuts back to that character). They must figure that no one can tell the difference.

And my personal favorite....

6. "Thumbing back the hammer" on a Glock

(this has happened at least seven times, complete with dubbed in sound effects)

This is pretty off topic, but I feel much better after my rant :).

face it. Hollywood is dumb. At least they occasionally have something entertaining to fall back on.

If we went down the road of continuity in general--much less firearms continuity--we'd be here for a long time. :) But I have to admit that I notice similar things. The other day, I was at Costco and noticed the DVD sets for the NBC series Chuck. On an early season, the pic had Yvonne Strahovski (Sarah Walker) holding a Glock Charlie's Angels-style with her finger inside the trigger guard. Then on season 2, the newer pic had her with two (what I think were) stainless Smith & Wesson 5906s--indexing with both strong and weak hands. Made me think she's been paying attention during the firearms handling training she must receive to play the role of a CIA bad@ss.

Did I just say all that out loud?! Damn...

And what is it with the SKS on Lost? It's everywhere! Apparently standard issue in the Dharma Initiative. There were actually a lot of different types of guns used in the series, especially 1940s-50s milsurp rifles. A lot of M1 Garands and Carbines, even a Mosin (the Russian guy with the patch). One time I thought of starting a "Lost guns thread."

Well, what with paying to build all those hatches and buildings, I guess there wasn't a lot of money left for M4's and high end 1911's

Noticed it, would comment on it, wife didn't car about it. 2 of my favorite shows. Sarah walker on Chuck, :brows:

I did notice the blond csi on Miami was shooting a stainless Kimber. I slowed down the DVR. It was kinda blurry, but it was definitely a kimber.

Never could follow this series. Guess you could say I'm "lost".

It is definitely one that you need to watch from the beginning, it builds/destroys/builds on from each episode in the past and flash forward to the future episodes. I, when time allows, watch it again from start to finish.

Don't forget my pet peeve . . . repeated pulling of the trigger and clicking on an empty SEMI-AUTO handgun . . . .

I can't answer all of them, but maybe the director and prop person used the same gun chart
