Wilson mags

No. There are none for sale here. My question: When people speak of the best mags for 1911s, Wilson appears near the top of the list more often than not. Why is this so? Are they slicker? Have they designed them with the best followers, springs, lips? Is the angle of the follower better designed or mag-release notch positioned better? Is it the internal width that works better?

Or is it that each gun is just a tiny bit different and you have to find the right fit regardless of brand because 5 mags of any one brand appear to be identical but aren't?

While I like Wilson Magazines, I prefer Chip McCormick Power Mags. I have owned over 50 47D and 47DC Wilson Combat magazines, the only pistol they would not run reliably in was a Wilson Combat CQB so I bought the cheaper 8 round power mags and they ran perfectly. The Wilson magazines use a polymer follower which is recommended if you have an alloy framed 1911, other than that, quality springs and base pads

I still have several 47 series mags and use their 47DC in my commander bobtail carry gun but for my money Chip Mc Cormick Power mags are superior as I have NEVER had a failure with them in any 1911. I plan on Buying some Powermag + and trying them out

I had heard great things of the Chips, as well. I don't really know about that many brands, but I guess my biggest question is "What are the aspects of a great mag that make the mag great?" You would think that in a world where everyone's copying each other, usually to lesser results, that the overall quality of magazines would be lifted when they discover the key to some univerally-fitted mag. Are the better mags mil-spec and they adjust to a wider range of pistols?

1. Followers, that are frame safe if the follower is designed properly extra long springs are not needed, this ensures reliability

2. Quality strong springs

3. Heavy duty construction

4. Tighter tolerances

Wilson, CMC, Checkmate, Tripp research and a few other makers all follow these guidelines and produce reliable long lasting magazines
