Just wondering if any of you guys owned a Monkey Fist. That is all.

If you own one, what kind, color etc.

If not, too bad.

What's a monkey fist, you ask?

I'm sure someone knows.

What was he selling them for?

Okay, here is why I was asking.

I've made these things for YEARS for my family and friends as keychains and such and they love them. My dad has told me for a year or two I need to sell them. I'm thinking about taking him up on the idea.

Honestly, do you think gun owners (as a whole) like these things? As something to have for a keychain.

They do make it really really easy to find your keys... I used to have one on my keychain all the time, until someone wanted one, and I was outta cord, so I gave them mine.

I haven't made any for a minute, but I'm sure I could do it. Idk, I just don't want to buy the cord and stuff and no one buy any, but I guess I will never know.

I had seen them on keychains a lot before I ever saw one for sale. I just couldn't bring myself to pay $10 -15 for a few feet of para cord and a ball bearing.

I made a few with and without the ball bearings for practice. Without the ball they lose their shape quickly. I didn't like the feel of the ball, so I grabbed a die from a Yhatzee game and tried it. It was perfect...lighter, solid, the square shape is unique, and it keeps its shape better than round.

Just my :D

I have seen the monkey fists for sale but haven't been tempted to buy one. I don't understand why I need one of these. They seem a bit large to carry in my pocket with my keys. Can someone give me a clue? I'm apparently missing something.

I've had one, blue, with the ss ball in it for a long time. Just like having it. Great for keeping the kids in line... :D

And now, in D.C. we have our own monkey a$$. :D

i use one for my keys. I have had it for about four years now. It is black with a steel ball in the fist. The fist part hangs out of my pocket and makes it simple to get to my keys. I almost always have stuff in my hands going in and out of work, or in or out of the house. I can always grab the ball and get my keys out. I just think it makes my life a little simpler.

It along with your keys can be a defensive weapon. Hold the fist and swing the keys at someone who is coming at you.

I learned how to tie the things years ago, and have several around here somewhere.

A monkey’s fist is used in the marine industry to retrieve lines; the weighted monkey fist is connected to a small diameter line and tossed to someone to pull a heavier line across a dock or barge.

Normally about the size of a baseball, but the small ones do make a good key chain.

Like Mike said, it hangs outside the pocket. Where it comes in handy for me and anyone else who wears a duty belt is that you can just grab the fist part and pull your keys straight out without having to fish around in your pocket at an awkward angle because your cuffs, gun, mace pouch, etc is hanging over your pocket.

I make them myself also. I have sold them on various forums. I haven't sold them on here because I haven't had the funds necessary to pay for the benefactor status.
