Weird but should be entertaining subject.... does electric and guns mix? lol

Alright so I got to thinking a few minutes ago, more or less about something I want to lay down in design platform,and a question arose. Would electricity or electric current effect a guns internals? Such as if it were hit by electricity or if a lesser form such as a stun gun, and i searched the internet to no prevail so just wanted to get everyones opinion or thoughts on it.If you think the parts would withstand electric currents or if there was a chambered round the likely hood of if firing.etc

I'd say "no" on it firing without a strike, but a heavy enough jolt could be sufficient to allow tac welds (resistance welding) of the thin internals to whatever they touch.

i cannot see how an electric current would make a firing pin release and strike a primer. Other than the possibility of violent twitching and inadvertantly hitting the bang button with part of your body.

alright thanks for the replies gives me a bit more insight, and some what less hesitance toward proceeding with a design plan and working plan lol i'll keep you posted

The 5" guns I worked on in the Navy were electrically primed. They would use impact to make the connection but an electric charge set off the primer.

The important thing is the current potential. A stun gun has high voltage but only a few microamps, no damage likely. A car battery has low voltage but high current potential.... several hundred amps are possible. The current flow generates lots of heat and can cause local tack welding of metal parts (as mentioned), melting or distortion of polymer parts, possiby induce magnetism in some components, and could ruin the temper of springs. It takes a lot of heat to cook off a round.
