Yeah, but anywhere I go in Europe I'm called a "Yank" especially in England. BTW - the "British accent" term is a throwback to the British Empire. AS if you didn't know.

I just read something interesting to that fact. According to the article, the British accent back then sounded more like what we now know as the American accent. Of course not having any recordings they used the teachings of such things as how the letter R is pronounced, etc. as their source.

Interestingly enough, I just got back from Scotland and had this very conversation with several people. Their comments were completely backwards. They said that they, and everyone else, are British first. Basically, they way they put it was like brothers. The brothers will squabble with each other, but an outsider better not mess with one of the brothers.
