I have a external frame backpack that I used one time back in Boy Scouts before I had to quit due to sports. I was going to sell it but thought about donating it the local BSA. Does anyone know if they even accept stuff like that? I thought someone else could use it who themselves or family didnt have the funds to purchase one.

I'm sure they'd love it! It's been quite some years since I was a scout, but if I remember correctly, I think we had some donated equipment.

I am an assistant scoutmaster. I would say that any Troop would love to have something like that. I just tool a dozen or so scouts to Shining Rock last week. several of the boys were on borrowed old gear.

As a former Asst Scoutmaster and Woodbadger myself (Bears!), I've never known a scout troop to turn down donated equipment. I have some myself that I need to get rid of. Thanks for the reminder that we need to support local troops with either time, money, or donated equipment.

I am a Unit Commissioner here in Shelby County. Depending on where you live, if you don't have a specific troop you would like to donate it to, I have a suggestion. Call your local council and ask if they have a Scoutreach division that would be interested in it. Scoutreach usually serves the scouts that are low-income minority, who would not have access to scouting any other way.

You can usually do a quick web search if you don't know your local council.

Yes. I would think that your local boy scout troop would love to get it. My son is a scout, and the often have various competitions where something like that could serve as a prize. It would be a good place to get rid of it.

I was a boy scout for about 2 days... I tried it one day, and they, including me, planted about 1000 saplings another day on my Grandfather's property.

I did, however, get my "Drinking Badge" with these same guys about 10 years later...
