Rock Island 1911 Officer Model

Recommended Posts

I need some help I figure this one should be simple but it has me stumped. My new Rock (50 rounds through it) will not lock up when you drop the slide with the slide release (with a round in the chamber). It will lock up if you work slide and stip a round off the magazine. Then sometimes it will lock up while fireing and some times you have to bump the slide to get it to lock up.

Trying to gain clarity on what is happening here....are you putting a round directly into the chamber, then releasing the slide onto the round in the chamber?

Did you have this problem with the gun out of the box, or did the first 50 rounds feed ok?

Another clarity question. If you put the loaded mag in and drop the slide to chamber a round, does the slide stay about and 1/8" out of battery? If so, swap the recoil spring for an 18#. I've seen that in many 1911's that are new. Shoot 500+ rounds with the heavier spring then you can go back to the factory spring, or just keep it for a spare.

Yes

Yes out of the box I had this problem. I figured it would work itself out but I have not had time to shoot latley.

Depending on who applied the duracoating, it can be thick and need some extra breaking in before it functions smoothly. I agree with the heavier recoil spring.

I know that dropping the slide on a chambered round is a no-no, especially for a firearm like this one equipped with an internal extractor. Could the extractor be part of the problem?

It does not do it dropping the slide on a loaded magazine but sometimes it will do exactly what you are talking about while fireing the pistol. I will try swapping out the recoil spring first chance I get.
