I am looking for a new compact handgun. Wanting to see which ones out there have a double recoil spring. And does this really help with recoil? Any caliber is fine. Thanks

Both my compacts have double recoil springs:

XD SC 9 has both captive

Kahr PM 9 has internal (captive) and external (non captive)

Actually, the XD 9 Service also has captive double springs, but the XD Tactical 9 has single non-captive.

Both are very manageable recoil.

'Bout the only thing I really tried to compare recoil to on the XD SC was a Glock 26, and they are pretty similar.

The Kahr is much gentler than Kel-Tec PF-9 and P-11, by far, the only guns of similar size same caliber I recall shooting.

Heck, it's gentler than Ruger LCP or KT 3AT in the smaller .380.

My Glock 26 has double springs, as does my Walther P22.

Thats one I was curious about, the Glock 26. Does it have to be a certain generation glock to get the double spring?

Most any subcompact will have double recoil springs... it's physics. The recoil spring needs X stiffness, Y travel, and must survive Z cycles. A single spring typically can't meet all 3 of those requirements. The amount of pre-load on the spring and it's stiffness will have an effect on felt recoil, but mainly how those behave in conjunction with the round being fired and the mass/design of the mechanism.

Interesting. My Bodyguard 380 (although a sub-compact) has 1 spring but the coils are not linearly wound. Alternate sections along it's length are closely wound while the other sections have more widely spaced coils. Could this be to make 1 spring behave as 2?

Inquiring minds would like to know.
