Not to be antagonistic about this but I've been doing this for a while now, and have seen this more than once.

The urine will still be dark, not crap colored, but dark, because the kidneys become overwhelmed and cannot process that amount of fluid.

The racing heartbeat is due to the lack of electrolytes in the body. Electrolytes are the key component in electrical transmissions within the body. When they become too low the heart can be affected as well, with intermittent bursts of electrical activity, causes a rapid pulse. Also can be explained by the brain telling the heart to compensate by pumping more blood through the brain in an attempt to maintain brain function.

And the BP, I can almost guarantee you would not have been low. Not my first rodeo, seen it, treated it, and seen people die from it.

Well, okey dokey then...I concede your diagnosis.

It is important to remember that you are not just sweating water. Many of the symptoms are due to electrolyte imbalances. To properly stay hydratated, you also have to take in the other stuff; this is the purpose of Gatorade or Powerade or any of the other sports drinks. Generally, I think they have too much sugar in them to drink while I am working, but I will often water them down and try to use the G2 Gatorade.

It is scary how easy it is to get yourself in trouble with the heat. Really, once you realize you are too hot or dehydrated, you are so far behind, it is hard to get caught up if you keep trying to work.

Earlier this year I was working a shutdown in a refinery inwhich flame retardant clothing with sleeves down is a requirement year around. While running up and down the steps and ladders of a unit, I realized that I had overheated to the point that sweating stopped. I don't recall my BP, but it took several days to recover. It's best to start hydrating before and continue while working in the heat.

Quite frequently there is also an element of rhabdomyolysis associated with "over doing it." If you have experienced a overly active day and have exerted yourself more than usual, as is often the case with heat related problems, and you let your electrolytes get out of whack, it is not unreasonable to suspect you have damaged your muscles. This can also help explain the dark urine. If Mike had done a urinalysis on the dark urine, I would not be surprised to see 4+ protein.

The renal system is amazing, and it can handle massive amounts of fluid. Drinking too much water with hyponatremia will cause the kidneys to dump more water. It is essential to replinish the Na to keep the water in the system. Water follows Na.

So you're saying my buying 5 bottles of delightfully colorful fruity Gatorades wasn't a total waste?

Not a waste, but like I said earlier, put some water with it to make it not so sweet. For each gatorade, drink that much or maybe twice as much water.

If you are doing the Gatorade, try the G2 not so much sugar but all the electrolytes

.My sister used to mak a concoction she called Ethiopian punch.....

Was Koolaid say grape, added grape juice and salt....Orange add orange juice and salt, extra water in these the juice makes up for the taste.

gets some salt and sugar in with the water and costs less than Gatorade.

Of course you still need many other things like potassium but food helps get those things in.

As always water electrolytes water etc... better yet STAY OUT OF THE HEAT!!
