My first C&R purchase. A '44 VKT barrelled Finnish Mosin. This is a man's rifle. Purchased from gunsnammo.com. Now I finally have something to go with those 1,760 rounds of 7.62x54r that I bought a few months ago.

My second purchase. Didn't need to use my C&R because it's an antique. Another Finn M39, built on an 1894 receiver with a Sako barrel. Pre-1899 guns aren't classified as firearms under federal law, and can be sold across state lines without an FFL or a C&R. Pretty cool to have a gun delivered to your front door that didn't require any paperwork.

I got my C&R license originally intending on buying a couple cheap Russian 91/30s. But as I did some research I came across the Finns and was attracted to them for their superior craftsmanship and accuracy. An M39 costs three times as much as a 91/30 but it's still pretty darn cheap. And I figured I might as well get a couple before they dry up or double in price. I also have a Swiss Miss K31 that I got pre-C&R. Another blueblood of the milsurp family. What can I say, I like to spend a little extra for the good stuff.

The wood on those is gorgeous.

It looks like beautiful wood. Found a 1981 export table enumerating Finland hardwood exports only in Red Oak, White Oak, Walnut, and Ash, with Ash having the largest quantity. If historical availability was about the same, maybe the stocks are one of those woods?

Thanks everyone. Didn't know that about the wood. One more thing to learn about as I get to know these rifles. The antique (the last picture above) has a war time stock I believe, and the other is a post war stock.

I've got a 91/30, an m44, an m38, and a finnish m39, and there is no comparison. The finns are one heck of a rifle!

My first rifle purchase was an Antique (pre-1899 receiver) M-39. Feels so much better than the 91/30. Cleans up quick too, after the barrel is hot. Got a 1942 Sk.Y in a war stock with the Sk.Y cartouche

Get some of the Yugo boat tail 182 grain to shoot in the M-39 (Note: the M-39 is designed to shoot any grain 7.62x54r ammo, including the heavy ball machine gun ammo. The Finns were wise to realize their soldiers might have to use captured ammo...)

Hee hee, I bought mine at a gunshow for $100! In my defense, I cut him a pretty good price on something 15 minutes before.

I got an UNISSUED "B" barrel 39 Finn. With my hand load of 50 grs Accurate 4350, CCI 200 primer, Graf/Prvi case, Sierra .311 diameter 174 Match King, OAL 3.000 and use a Lee Factory Crimp Die on it. It will drive tacks and it shoots to the sights. By the way this is the most accurate load for any 7.62X54R rifle that needs .311 bullets that I have found. If you need a .312 diameter use the 174 gr Hornady RNSP and load the OAL 2.790 .

Get on Empire Arms email notification list. You may find something you can't live without. If you have quick fingers on the keys, you may even get to it before someone else. I almost forgot, you need deep pockets for a lot of their stuff.

Their procedure is to notify by email and make the list of new items available to those on the email list for 24 hours. Anything left after that is added to the regular site.

By the way, I haven't been quick enough and prosperous enough to buy anything from them yet.

Southern Ohio Gun has VKT M39's for $239.95. Luck of the draw if you order, but you might end up a winner if you beg for something nice. Like I did. :biglol:

What can you all tell me about those, 1969 "sneaks" ? What are they worth, and are they all that? Are they that rare?

I have a "B" barrel m-39, man, talk about a tack driver, with factory ammo! These rifles are awesome!

Found a deal at a local pawn shop. Owner had 4 Mosin Nagants, all marked $100 each. Looked them over and found one with the "F" word stamped on it. Yep; grabbed up a Finnish model M39 for $100 otd, in near mint condition. No rust, no pitting of any kind, and a clean stock & barrel. The owner said he had never heard of one and said that a Russian rifle is a Russian rifle. Oh, well. I told him to call me if he got another "Finnish" Russian rifle in. :hat:

The "sneaks" are a bit more - $100-200 premium over a standard M39...

gunsnammo.com is having a Christmas sale. Claimed 10% off or more plus a free used Finn sling with purchase...

Supposedly in order of value, Sk.Y, then Sako, then VKT. B barrels and D marked are more value. (D marked allow for use of Russian and certain Finn ammo.)

War stocks are more value.

Dozens of aspects.

Excellent Find Luvmyberetta!

Years ago I gave my nefew a Finn that someone had modified, cut the handguard off. Now he's a big collector of them and searched and found the proper Finn stock and upper guard to be as original as possible. Well he gave me a very nice Mosin this Christmas a 91/30 Izhevsk/Russian. Now all I have to do is get some good gun scrubber, I think i'll try to find Tetra brand and see how that works. There's alot of storage grease and Cosmoline to clean off but i'm looking forward to shooting it. I already have a Polish M44 which by the way has the smoothest reciever and stock i've seen on any Mosin.
