I've jailbroken several times with no problems, on both my old 3G and now my new iPhone 4.

Jailbreaking doesn't mess up anything with your phone. Everything syncs and works the same way as an non-jailbroken phone, it just allows you to take control of things on your phone that Apple doesn't allow.

As someone pointed out, if you ever have any problems you just restore your phone in iTunes to the factory settings.

Once you jailbreak the current firmware however, you will have to re-jailbreak if you update to the latest firmware. I usually just don't update as most of the firmware updates are pointless (the last one was just to change the way the signal bars work).

I have no problems with AT&T (never have and I've been with them for years) so I don't jailbreak to unlock (which is what you need to do if you want to use the phone on another carrier).

My main reason to jailbreak is to use apps like MyWi which allow you to tether and make your phone a WiFi hotspot, 3G Unrestrictor which fools the phone into thinking you are on WiFi when you are actually on 3G, Plus the ability to have an actual firewall, add quick toggles, add Flash, modify files and change other settings that Apple doesn't allow.

Once you jailbreak you'll never go back! I suffered for a month after getting my iPhone 4 before the JailbreakMe jailbreak for the iPhone 4 was out. :)

I just have to jump in and say I have had AT&T serviice since 2002 and the only problem I ever had was with aSamsung phone. Verizon has NO SERVICE in our area.

I have great service with my iPhone 3GS and rarely find a place where I don't have service. I've only dropped a few calls but that was with a LOW battery

I find that Verizon's plan prices don't provide as many services and they want more for said services.

I may be the only one in the world but I am a dedicated AT&T customer and satisfied also.

No, you're not alone. I heard that there's another satisfied customer in southern Georgia.

New development: AT&T offers a repeater for office buildings, and we just got one. Dropped by my office on Music row yesterday, and had 4 bars at my desk. Used to have to go outside to use the phone. They suck less now.

Yep... heard some raves on the 4 a few days ago. I think my 3gs is too new to do an upgrade without getting hosed, but I'll move that way as soon as it makes sense.

In that case, I just need to look at the antenna problem and see if there's a workaround for me. I don't like bumpers.

Don't hold it goofy and it is not a problem. I think it is on the bottom left side and if you use two fingers in one specific position, you can lose signal. We were trying to do it to one the other night, but couldn't.

We just bought a micro cell for our house. It works great! I think they should give you them it's a bandaid fix for them.

I'm left handed, so my palm will land right on the gap.. I use a leather belt case. No big deal. Just have to figure it out before I pop for one. I have the gear to measure the transmitted signal strength instead of having to rely on their doctored up bar graph.

Yep, I may do it at home too.

How much does the micro cell cost?

150 bucks

Is that it? One fee or is it that plus a $$ per month?

My wife's work is getting one. I have heard our school might, some of the older buildings kills cell phone signals...all of them. If they fix my kids school, then I really won't have any coverage issues.

My IT guy ordered it, and that's what he said. We have an enterprise deal with AT&T, so you wanna double check.

This thread is encouraging. I have been a long time Verizon customer. For the most part I have been satisfied with VZW. But after the Alltel takeover they make changes to the cell sites and it has affected my service. Now I am having a pissing match with them because my wife and I have BB Storms and they are crap. We have both on our third phone. And they won't let us upgrade to a different phone. So we are looking hard at the Iphone. The only thing that is really holding us back is ATT's reputation for poor service.

I was a long time Verizon Customer up until three years ago. They suck! Switched when we moved because we could not get service at our new house. Phones worked fine at the end of the street however our culdesac was a blind spot.

Discovered AT&T worked at the house right before the iphone first came out. Daughter saved up her money and waited in line for hours to get one of 20 the Providence AT&T store had. Absolutely fell in love with the iphone and had to have one. We are now a family with three of them. My main complaint, AT&T. They also suck! But to be fair, so does T-mobile & Sprint. Everyone I know gets dropped calls no matter who they have. I must say one thing about AT&T, their customer service has been superb thus far which has totally surprised me.
