Concealed carry holsters for a 1911 government model? any recommendations.

I would love to carry my 1911 concealed but I haven't had any luck finding a holster. I bought a shoulder holster but it is a cheap POS and is awkward at best. I have a paddle holster but it ain't concealable. ANY recomendations that will allow me to carry my beloved 1911, "Thumper", concealed will be greatly appreciated.

I would like to carry it outside the waste ban high on my strong side.

gregintenn makes a nice holster that works well for my 1911. For IWB which has become my preferred method of carry because it works very well with the slim frame of a 1911, I have a Desantis Intruder tuckable IWB.

Thanks for the kind words, Chuck.

These are comfortable and conceal a 1911 about as well as anything I've seen.

Lots of choices for nice ones at around the c-note mark, if you can stand to wait.

Couple of my fav makers:

David Bullard's BodyGuard:

TT Gunleather has a number of nice ones:

Milt Sparks VM2, if you don't mind waiting 9 months. Otherwise I'd go with a DM Bullard Dual Carry.

Ooops, sorry, these are mainly IWBs. The DMB Bodyguard (posted above) looks good to me. DMB's are good.

I mentioned the Sparks holster because it is the only holster I have any experience using while carrying a 1911. It seemed to fit all of the OP's requirements except being OWB. In my mind I was thinking the OP could find the OWB version of this holster. Guess I should have been more specific. My apologies.

I own this one as well: MASTER'S Leather BELT SCABBARD Holster - Open Top . I've found mine to be a nice, well made holster. I do not wear it much right now, primarily due to having a hard time concealing it (I have a hard time concealing most OWB holsters). It does a great job around the farm and things though.

I'll also recommend a Blackhawk Serpa. I've found the Serpas to stay pretty close to the body.

I can't imagine a full size 1911 being too concealable when carried OWB. Maybe I haven't seen the right holster.. I'm sure it can be done, just maybe not on me. When I carry my 1911 I use a kholster IWB. Cheap and ugly, but effective.

I'm not much help I suppose, but let us know what you end up with. I may try OWB carry if the right holster exists.

The good news is that just about every holster maker makes one for any size 1911, so the choices are almost unlimited. The bad news is that just about every holster maker makes one for any size 1911, so the choices are almost unlimited. :)

I don't have a Milt Sparks, but I've heard consistently that the Versa Max II is about the finest leather holster you can buy, but the wait is long and it's more money than I care to spend.

It's all a big tradeoff. The Galco conceals well under a regular jacket. A lot depends on where you carry and how you dress. Business casual with daily carry in an office requires IWB. I just carry a smaller gun this time of year.

It took a box of holsters before I also came to that decision.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It doesn't nessessarily have to be outside the waste ban. I just need it to ride high enough so that my vest conceals it and that it doesn't poke out and "print". I am making a list of all ya'll's recommendations so I can search'em out on the internet.
