Youth Competition?

What exactly is available in the middle Tennessee area that would involve youth. It can be airgun, rimfire, or centerfire. Just wondering, because my boys enjoy shooting and love competing against each other at home. We never let them in little league sports because of what all goes on as far as coaches and parents. Thats not to knock anyone involved in it, but we have seen nothing but bad things from my teen years watching cousins and nephews up to now. I have entertained the thought of youth shooting but never really heard anything about it. Now that they are getting to try out sports in middle school, I am severely dissappointed in the general attitude of coaches and parents. Maybe my standards are too high, but there is more to life than living and breathing sports( And I love to participate in any and all sports, but toned it down when the kids came along.) I figure they would enjoy this more, and it would go more with our lifestyle. So, whats out there?

there is a lot youth shotgun like skeet and trap. in benton county there are monthy rim fire silhouette matches. most idpa and uspsa clubs welcome youth shooters and will allow them to use 22lr. but do request they be around 12. we have shot with some very good young shooters.

but does really help (on the pistol side) if you shoot a few first and have a good idea of what is going on.

the green river club up north is having a rifle match next month (run and gun) if they like ar style rifles.

of couse they need to the basic safety rules and how the gun works first.

good luck

I am talking 2 at 10 and 1 at 9. If we have to wait to get them involved I am ok with that, just wanting to know whats out there so we can get started.

i started the boys in idpa at 10 and 12. and they shot the first major match at at 12 and 14 as idpa members.

the CZ 75 SA worked best for the youngest. when he moved up to 9mm. then girls and football happened.
