C&R questions

Recommended Posts

Posted

Let me see if I got this right,

One, I don't want any information if it would break any laws. If any of my questions go in that directions let me know.

Lets see if I have a basic understanding of C&R.

1. C&R lets a person but old surplus guns direct, shipped direct to their home.

2. Have to keep a book of incoming/outgoing, in case you get inspected.

3. Are you considered a business if you get one of these or can it just be for personal use?

Are you required to have a safe or anything really special to keep the C&R items in, in case you get inspected?

4. Nothing really prevents you from using a C&R buying, recording property, and later selling it in a face to face sell, in TN right, then recording it out of your book?

5. With the last one in mind, if I happen to find something I like, could I find a person with a C&R to buy and later sell it to me?

*******

I have done some searches on the internet,

read a thread here. http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/illinois/98412-c-r-license.html

Anything else I should really know?

I am trying to figure out if I should consider a C&R in the future or not. I don't know how much I would actually use it, honestly probably not allot right now but maybe later.

I think you may have it all figured out by now, but I'm chime in any way.

1) You cannot only buy old surplus guns and have them shipped to your door, but any commercially manufactured gun over 50 years old.

2) Correct.

3) No, the C&R license is strictly for personal use.

4) Nope. You are allowed to dispose of items in your collection.

5) The C&R license is to maintain one's personal collection, not to buy guns for other people. That could be considered business or even a straw purchase in the eyes of the law and spirit of the license.

Yes.

Yes.

No. In fact, it says right on your license that it can NOT be used for a business.

No.

No, but if they think you are doing it as a business, they'll come after you. But there's nothing wrong with buying a gun and later selling it for whatever reason.

5. With the last one in mind, if I happen to find something I like, could I find a person with a C&R to buy and later sell it to me?

That's illegal - C&R is for personal use of the licensee only.

C&R is handy, you can buy tons of cool firearms at great prices and many places qualify C&R FFL holders as 'dealers', so you get (discounted) dealer pricing.

This alone is worth the cost of the C&R many times over!

what is the cost or process of getting a C&R? been thinking about it but not sure if it is worth the hassle for me.

The following link will take you directly to the BATF websight and you can download a pdf version of the regs and all qualifying weapons. You Gotta call the BATF direct now and request the proper forms. I requested mine last week, hope to have my C&R within 2-6 months based on others experience.

Thanks guys.

BTW, I read the kit comes with finger printing cards but for the C&R that is not required, seems they send the same generic kit for several different things.

{"You do not have to call the ATF for the forms. Go here:

Distribution Center Order Form and order Form 7CR. The cost for a Type 03FFL is $30 for three years."}

Excellent! I was never able to find the form online. U know anyone who has applied online?

I may alter my method if it is faster ane more dependable. I dont expect to see my paper form for 2-3 more weeks.

P.S I asked when i talked to the chick that took my info at the ATF,she confirmed, fingerprints are not required.

I mailed my forms on 7/28 and the funds cleared my bank on 8/3.

Now I wait.

Does this license allow you to buy C&R weapons at gun shows without all the usual fees/checks?

It's not an online application. It's simply a place to order the forms which are then mailed to you.

Roger That. Thanks. My packet got here yesterday, just found it a few minutes ago while sorting through mail!! You think if I FedEx it overnight and stuff in an extra 30 bucks I could convince them to "expedite" my application. LOL. ARRRRGGG the waiting is already eating at me. I think I may start a new support group…..C&R FFL Application waiters Anonymous.

I am not going to do this until after I get my HCP, still waiting. I found out people that applied a day after me got theirs issues on 8/2. So I called today only to find they are still doing my Background check. I live such a boring life they can't believe they are not finding anything on me I guess.

Not sure about this. I would think that the selling FFL dealer would still be required to run a NICS check but I am not sure. Ill deffinately ask.

I sent mine out yesterday. My anxiousness about getting the license is tempered by how broke I am.

(see post #15)

NO, with C&R you can buy from FFL without background check, just log it into your bound book. However the FFL is not required to accept your C&R license, and a few don't.
