After my initial WOW, i gotta do another WOW! This thread has ploded all over the place.

Personally I can't see how having more quality gun stores in the area is a bad thing. Unless you are the Wally World of gun stores I would think it would be a boon to have a greater variety and options that folks can use to justify shopping or even making a trip. You're average gun guy doesn't just go to one store and then home. Usually they will hit all the stores on their way to or from the farthest store or go to all the ones in a general area. As long as they are decent places, it should increase traffic. Every store wants to be the monopoly, but it is generally better for the market if there are several strong competitors in an area to drive more traffic. The more traffic that is driven the more casual buyers you will have and that is where the money is. Salemen who only look for the big sale will stare between big paychecks right before they have a career change. The guy who makes all the little sales will make a consistent, steady, and good living. :2cents:

That's too logical. Thus, it obviously has no place in this thread.:shake:

hey its obvious there is more to this story then has been aired here and only a handful of people that really know that whole story. Facts are facts and anyone with a little sense can see thru the intentions of this thread. In any event I wasnt meaning to mudsling... However... unprofessional or not I just drew a line in the sand, and like it or not I meant every damned word of it. So Its not personal, Its just business.

Im out.

For the record, I'm the one without the hat.

What I have digested and my $.02 on this thread:

I may not be a gun expert to the degree of some on here but I do know business and personally sell $15M worth of product a year. When I’m asked about my competition my typical response is, “they are a formidable competitor, let me tell you what my company can do for youâ€. I not pointing fingers at anyone, just stating what I think is responsible protocol for any business.

I may be stepping out of bounds here but since someone already did, I feel compelled to comment. Retired Navy GMC is a good friend and I also know the details of time of employment he spent at G&L. The only thing I could add to his summary was, the timing (although fortunate for him) was just really bad for G&L. I knew that’s how it would be perceived after the fact. I can assure you, he was just wanted a job and his long-term plans seemed light years away at the time. I’m not faulting G&L at all; most business owners would do the same thing in the same situation. Just pointing out for the record, it was not his intention to undermine G&L.

Lastly, I have spent my hard earned money at G&L, Academy, Outpost, Gander, Bass Pro, Goodlettsville Gun Shop etc. In the current state of things and people’s mindset, I think there will be more than enough business to go around.

Instead of bashing each other, maybe they should join forces and make everyone happy. As for some of the members here, stop fueling the fires. This thread should be CLOSED!!!

I feel like some real clarification ought to be done in this thread, so here's the back-story:

The OP recently approached me about becoming a Vendor and also about posting a thread regarding job opportunities. I asked that he not come out and say, "Hey I am opening a new gun shop at 1234 Main Street and I'd like to hire you" because that would likely be perceived as covert advertising without being a Vendor. He understood, agreed and apparently posted what I suggested he post. In the meantime he's also been working with me behind the scenes to establish himself as a Vendor to make things proper.

TGO does not offer anyone the corner on the market as being THE gun shop in their respective areas. I believe in free enterprise and believe that when gun stores compete for your business, they are not only helping themselves stay sharp but they are fostering an environment in which the customer is treated as the most important part of their business. Besides, it's the American dream to go into business for yourself and I say more power to anyone who tries it and even more power to those who succeed. I would HOPE that business competitors would conduct themselves as gentlemen and earn business by treating their customers with respect.

I'm really sorry to see that this thread turned out like it did. I've been traveling for business the past week and have had almost zero internet-time as a result. I feel that I owe the OP an apology for not being present to take up for him since so many claims were lodged against him for using "covert" tactics to advertise after he did exactly what I asked him to do to avoid that sort of thing.

No good deed goes unpunished.
