Non-lethal where you cannot carry a handgun?

Recommended Posts

I know there are several places we as legally armed citizens still cannot carry. What is the best alternate defense option for places where we cannot carry a firearm?

I know pepper spray and stun guns have been mentioned in past threads and discussions.

I found this selfdefense while listening to one of my radio talk shows. Wanting to know and get the experts opinions about this as i am considering one for my brother( he hates guns) and yet he is in Atlanta and usually out late at night working.

Also open to other suggestions about other available products.

Thanks

It really depends on the person. Honestly the best deterrent, with or without a firearm, is to just not look like a victim. Be alert, don't flash cash, etc. However, things will happen so really your best bets are Pepper Spray (good quality like Fox Labs not the grocery store check out line crap), TASER C2 (if legal in your state), and/or good martial arts training. Some people will say an ASP baton, but I think that's poor advice. ASPs take regular training to use effectively and they aren't always legal in alot of places. It's pretty easy to get a 21/26" piece of metal taken away from you if you don't know what you're doing and get beat to death with it. It's also easy to land yourself in trouble if you go overboard with it. IE the guy falls to the ground, but you whack him a few more times for good measure.

I guess it is better than nothing.

The one thing I don't like about tasers like that is that you have to be very close to the person and make contact.

Punisher has very good advice on not looking like a victim as well. Walk with your head up etc..... and always be aware of your surroundings!!

I think victims are often picked because they don't remain alert to their surroundings and are seen as being weak, easy targets. The element of suprise can be an advantage, for the criminal or for the victim, depending on circumstances. Many crimes happen because the victims are completely unaware of their surroundings and therefore not ready to defend themselves. A weapon isn't much use when you're unable to get to it because both hands are carrying packages.
