Carry at Pickwick is fine, even if signs are posted, it's a state park. Not 100% sure about the dam itself though, it is probably off-limits per federal law.

MS does honor TN permits.

Places off-limits even with a permit in MS (http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/mississippi.pdf)

  • Any police, sheriff or highway patrol station: any detention facility, prison or jail.
  • Any courthouse; any courtroom, except that nothing in this section shall preclude a judge from carrying a concealed weapon or determining who will carry a concealed weapon in his courtroom;

  • Any polling place; any meeting place of the governing body of any governmental entity; any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof.

  • Any public park unless for the purpose of participating in any authorized firearms-related activity;

  • Any school, college or professional athletic event not related to firearms;

  • Any portion of an establishment, licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, that is primarily devoted to dispensing alcoholic beverages; any portion of an establishment in which beer or light wine is consumed on the premises, that is primarily devoted to such purpose;

  • Any elementary or secondary school facility; any junior college, community college, college or university facility unless for the purpose of participating in any authorized firearms-related activity;

  • Inside the passenger terminal of any airport, except that no person shall be prohibited from carrying any legal firearm into the terminal if the firearm is encased for shipment ,for purposes of checking such firearm as baggage to be lawfully transported on any aircraft;

  • Any church or other place of worship;

  • Or any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law.

  • In addition to the places enumerated in this subsection, the carrying of a concealed pistol or revolver may be disallowed in anyplace in the discretion of the person or entity exercising control over the physical location of such place by the placing of a written notice clearly readable at a distance of not less than ten (10) feet that the "carrying of a pistol or revolver is prohibited."

  • No license issued pursuant to this section shall authorize the participants in a parade or demonstration for which a permit is required to carry a concealed pistol or revolver

MS does not allow carry in public parks, but I don't think any part of Pickwick is actually in MS.

We'll be staying a J P Coleman resort outside of Iuka, MS. The resort itself may actually be in TN. Any problems about carrying a BUG loaded in the SUV was my main worry.

Looking at Google Maps JP Coleman State Park is all in MS.

However I was wrong about Park carry in MS

From the handgunlaw page I posted....

Carry In State Parks/State & National Forests/WMA/Road Side Rest Areas

Carry Allowed in these Areas:

State Parks: YES Sec. 45-9-101. (After July 1, 2010, Senate Bill 2862)

State/National Forests: Unknown

WMA’s: NO

Road Side Rest Areas: YES If Not Posted

So it seems as of last month carry in State Parks is legal in MS http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/2010/pdf/history/SB/SB2862.xml

Your motor vehicle is treated as your house in Mississippi....as in if you are 18 years old...you don't need a license/permit to have a loaded handgun, rifle, or pistol concealed or unconcealed in your vehicle....of course as long as you aren't ineligible to possess the firearm....it is kind of nice. Non student 18 year olds can keep loaded pistols in cars at schools, for example....just can't take them out of the car on school property....because your car is your house....have fun at Pickwick...oh your license is good in parks now in Mississippi under a new law down there if you want to carry on your person....I live outside Memphis so I sometimes go across the state line into Olive Branch and Southaven...there's some gun shows I go to in DeSoto County..especially when Sportsman's Warehouse was open in Southaven...sad when that place closed!

razorback2003 is right about your car in MS. I had found that infomation and was going to post it, but didn't after I saw the law change that allowed carry in state parks.
