Red dot scope for AR

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a deal or some recommendations for a scope for an M4. I like the red dot thing.

Since I'm paying for the M4, price is a consideration.

Thanks

Primary Arms Micro Dot (Gen 2)

This is the same as the sig sauer branded optic. It will need to be mounted on an absolute cowitness for you to see your irons through it. You will also need to do a bit of fitting for it to go on an aimpoint mount. Not much just a small amount of file work to the locking lug on the bottom. Maybe .010 off of the lug.

It is a decent optic for the money.

I asked the same question a couple weeks ago. I wanted an eotec but didn't want to drop the money to punch paper. I read a lot about the primary arms and it looks like a good way to go.

Primary Arms seem like the way to go for the low end. I have the Vortex SPARC and LOVE it. It doesn't wash out, auto offs, and has 3 different mounts so you can lower 3rd/cowitness/or mount it really low. It is also NV compatible which I can see ever practically using :D There is a a couple reviews and videos where the SPARC "torture" tested and it never missed a lick. Guy even threw it all over the range and it didn't stop. It also comes with a doubler. They run $189 these days. They are also compatible with all Aimpoint micro mounts.

I will second Vortex optics. I have a Strikefire and for the money it is hard to beat. Plus they have an unconditional lifetime warranty. They don't care how you broke it, they just fix/replace it and get you back shooting.

I just looked up the Vortex SPARC and saw the doubler screws into the reddot. How do you like that and does it work well? That would ceartinaly take up less space than a reddot, magnifier, and iron sights.

Never really used it. It works, but the FOV

is really narrow and it reduces the eye relief. It's nice to play with, but I leave it off for practical reasons.

I have the doubler with my strikefire and rarely use it as well (rarely shoot over 100 yards). However, the times I have used it, it works well and takes up little extra space on the rail.

I like how they mount. I suppose with any peep site accuracy is fair. They're surprisingly more sturdy than I thought they'd be. So I'm happy.

Here's my final product on this AR project. Primary Arms M4 with magpul BUIS.

How do you like the PA M4? That is the same one I have.

So far so good. I got it on Saturday and went out to the range yesterday and dialed it in. Took a little while, but I'm a noob with regard to scopes. I did nail a bullseye at 25 yards on a 5.5 inch Caldwell target. Luck probably, but the 5 round group was pretty tight. I really like the choice of reticles for my old tired eyes. It'n not an Eotech, but for the price I really like it.
