The small-ish .45 concept...

I only look at compacts and sub compacts when considering a fire arm......full size hand guns IMO are for Duty use

as a civilian I have that freedom......The smaller the gun the more I like it....Duty/Service people are issued a firearm

and usually its a big ole clunker .... No thx man,I like my guns concealable no matter what size slug it fires

;) though I do reserve the right to change my mind as I start to shoot more

Educate me; why does it seem the small-ish .45 concept seems to be on track in South America where manufacturing consistency seems questionable? The Bersa Thunder, Taurus PT 145... what does it appear that America/Europe tries to go too small (Kahr, G36) to make a controllable, comfortable, concealable .45? Or am I just missing something obvious?

what about the M&P .45c? seems interesting to me...

My EDC is a Colt New Agent in .45acp. I got it for it's size. I have also worked for almost 30 years in Latin America. Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador and most recently Peru. While the .45 is made in several LA countries, the locals almost always can't buy them. Most countries limit non-police or military to .38 special in revolvers or .380acp in pistols. .32's and .22's are also popular. I'm not saying you can't buy a 9mm or .45acp, but you don't want to be caught with them. Taurus in Brazil makes some good guns, as does Llama. Mendoza in Mexico goes somewhat exotic with a .22 full auto in a small .22lr Llama sized auto. Quality is OK until they break.

I've owned an AMT Backup in .45ACP and fired it with no issues. I bought it in great shape for 250.00 last year and sold it for 250.00 a few weeks later. I have a Springfield Champion 4" that I like a lot, but am still in the eval stage. If I were going to put up my Glock 9mms as my daily carry guns I think I would look at a Glock 36 single stack. I like the grip on my Champion better than the G36 but the 36 weighs much less and can take abuse.

Comparing the PT145 and XD45c, the XD generally 10-15% larger in all dimensions. Essentially the same difference as between the service model and compact XD's. I've also wondered why no XD45sc.

I don't have any real issues with controlling my PT145, as stated, just hold on tight. I'm sure I'd be faster and more accurate with a 5" steel 1911, but my PT145 is smaller, lighter, and has nearly double the capacity. Not to mention the 2-3x cost factor. The subcompact Glocks are just uncomfortable for me.

I have carried a Glock Model 30 everyday for 6 + years now and I have put almost 3,000 rounds through it and it isn't painful for me. Heck it is even accurate as I need it to be for a SD gun.

I tried the PT145 before the Colt. For me, and your mileage may vary, it was too heavy & I didn't like the grip to barrel angle. You should be able to find an example of most models to fondle, I mean evaluate, before you buy.

I've always wanted the same thing, Steelharp... A G19 chambered in .45. Exactly that. Looks like we'll never get it.

The answer is a Glock 30. Same as a G19, just a fraction of an inch thicker. Both in my household, compared many times.

They are a lot similar in size than most people would ever realize.

I had a Kahr CW45 and try as I might I just couldnt get accurate enough with the 2nd shot....then I got a Star Firestar which is compact but weighs as much as a brick (all stainless)....good shooting gun, but the best overall fit I have found for me is a Sig P245(same as a 220 compact)...easy recoil, weight not too bad (alloy and steel), and feeds anything you put in it. YMMV

truthsayer... maybe we do. I stopped at a local shop today, and they had a G36. I took my G19 in... and they were the same size in the slide and trigger guard. The grip was a bit thinner on the 36. Slid right in my holster perfectly.

I might have to rethink this G36 thing...
