Soccer cleat vs Eye....Who do you think will win????

Recommended Posts

Soccer Cleat Wins!!! My daughter plays keeper and took a cleat to the eye while making a save. End result: 5 stitches, an Orbital Blowout fracture and a Sinus bone fracture. Luckily both fractures will heal on their own and shouldn't need surgery. She was not a happy camper in the ER.

Of course it happens at the one game I was not at. It is really hard answering your phone and hearing your daughters panicked voice saying Dad I am hurt and need to go to the hospital..come get me.

OOOOUUUUCCCCHHHHHHH. Man the swelling between the open and closed wound are crazy, I bet she is even worse this morning. And she sure doesn't look too happy, part of it might be the photo op going on! Anyway, I bet that is a tough phone call to get, one that I will probably get one day.

Hope she has a speedy recovery, and at least it is a cool story.

Wow!

Been there. It sucks. I'm sure they told you this but alternating heat and ice will get the swelling down and get the fluid moving out of her eye. It helped immensely with mine.

A sock filled with dry rice put in the microwave is an awesome and cheap heat pad.

They aren't foreseeing any vision problems are they?

Luckily there is no vision problems. This happened last Saturday night. What made the swelling worse was the sinus fracture. Right before he started to stitch her up he told her to blow her nose. When she did all the air went through the sinus fracture into the eyelid tissue and behind the eye. Swelling is almost all the way gone now.

Yeah, OUCH!! I hope she recovers quickly. Glad to read that her vision is OK.

A few years ago, I was in Chicago at a business conference. At dinner with about 15 other people from the conference I receive a call from my wife.

She has taken our younger son to the ER (he was about 6 at the time). He had walked behind his older brother, who was swinging a baseball bat. Yep, WHACK, right above the eye. :)

Not the type of call I'd ever wish on anyone!

After a Cat Scan and a few stitches, he was pronounced OK....He's still got a small scar right above his eyebrow. :)

Yikes!

Just an inch lower and that would have been really bad. Not that this isnt bad enough. Wishing you a quick and as painless as possible recovery.

Just make sure she doesn't eat jello and then puke it up from pain meds. Once the swelling starts going down, you start leaking liquid jello from your sinuses.......not that that's happened to me or anything. Oh, and I can sympathize with her. No helmet + a 4-wheeler + gun rack on said 4-wheeler = 6 stitches almost exaclty where her picture shows them. Not fun.
